MINI5280 members will be participating in the BMWCCA autocross season, and
we'd like to get as many people involved as possible. The MINIs did very
well at the final BMWCCA autocross of the season last year, and we
anticipate putting on a good show in 2003.
This thread will walk you through how to register for the event and the
autocross series.
* INTRODUCTION TO BMWCCA AUTOCROSS *
Autocross is an excellent way to learn more about the handling of your
MINI. It affords you the opportunity to view the limits of the MINIs
handling abilities (and your own) in a controlled environment.
The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America (BMW CCA) puts
on a safe well run event, which usually enables entrants to get 6 runs
during the day (that's almost twice the number of runs compared to other
local events).
* BMWCCA AUTOCROSS SCHEDULE *
The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the BMWCCA now has their autocross schedule posted for the coming season. The first event is March 22nd. It's
referred to as a winter event, because it is not part of the 6 event
BMWCCA autocross series, which starts later in the year.
* JOINING BMWCCA *
If you're not a member of BMWCCA I would highly recommend it. There will
be a $5 per discount for BMWCCA members for each autocross event. Plus,
BMWCCA produces a nice glossy national magazine and a newsletter of the
chapter's happenings
If you are planning on running multiple events, then you should reserve a
car number. It's free, and it enables you to keep the same number
throughout the season. *7* MINI5280 members already have their numbers
reserved.
Before registering, you need to class you MINI. Rocky Mountain BMWCCA
classifies the MINI as a BMW. :smile:
If you have any questions, feel free to contact myself, or Randy Webb.

Hi, Dave. I noticed the auto-x schedule in this post, and there is an error. You have listed the Apr. event as 4/13/03 @ Bandmere, while the BMW site says 4/12/03 @ Coors Field. Which is correct?

First car out is at 10 AM.
I have no idea if the MINIs will be in that first grouping or not (they generally divide the classes up into three larger groups). It should run until the mid-late afternoon.
:smile: Swing by and root on the MINIs :smile:

Questions and ponderings from a new MIN driver:
Well I'm signed up the the autocross this Saturday (6/28/03) at Coors Field. I'm hoping there will be some MINI folks there to help my transition to a FWD drive car that I barely know from an AWD car that I know very well. At this point I'm somewhat clueless on things like tire pressures and what I'll need to do to induce rotation (vs snap oversteer). Hell, I'm not even sure I know where the right side of the car is yet!
Who's coming Saturday? Is there a preferred part of the parking lot where MINI's congregate? I see the BMW club serves us lunch, unlike the SCCA: is it edible, or should I bring my own?

I would assume we'd have at least the following people there on Saturday:
Competing:
me (dark silver / white)
Randy (red/white Union Jack)
Richard Boone (Electric Blue with Flames)
Brad Mott (Indi Blue / Black)
Tad (BRG/white)
Spectating: Bridget (pure silver / black)
I'll bring the mini5280 tent and banner. We usually park together and have a MINI pit area. The lunch is edible. It's usually a choice of sandwich - ham, turkey, or roast beef, chips and a drink. I would still bring a snack though.
See you Saturday!

Though I didn't do particularly well - that auto-x was a blast! (I'll blame it on the 15" m/s tires
)
1T 199 Brad Mott 2003 Cooper S 54.268 - -
2T 66 Ken Hammack 2002 Z3 55.213 -0.945 -0.945
3T 93 Randy Webb 2002 Cooper S 55.551 -0.338 -1.283
I was parked next to Ken Hammock in the paddocks. He seemed just a tad disheartened by Brad's time.
Thanks to Randy for riding shotgun with me in one of the warm up runs.
DID - you've got to come back!

Thanks,
The race was a blast. The new Hoosiers grip the ground AWESOME!!!! It is a different feeling being able to point the car where you want it to go and actually have it go where you want.
There were alot more MINI's this event, 7 vs 3. Where are all the guys from last year?
See you all soon. Auto-x, meeting, track, drive, somewhere?
