Northern Colorado Motoring chapter of MINI5280 is announced

MINI5280 announces the formation of two new chapters. As we grow the MINI / Mini community in Colorado, this announcement is overdue. Therefore, please note that the following two chapters have been proposed by the officers of MINI5280. At such time that the membership can vote on the official establishment of the chapters, this will be official. Thanks to all of you, this action is necessary and unavoidable. With as many MINIs as there are around this state, you can be sure that CS and NC will be good and active chapters. Our new chapters proposed will be:
  • Colorado Springs Motoring
  • Northern Colorado Motoring
This forum in NAM (Rocky Mountain) will be one place you can go for information. Please also use the MINI5280 forum as well, and of course the MINI5280 event calendar.

Welcome to all of you. Should you have an interest in helping MINI5280 run this chapter either with events, activities, communications or technology, please volunteer here.

Thanks.

Way to go!

Good idea Jonathan! I always found it difficult to make meetings in Denver. Maybe this will be easier.

Thanks!

Colorado State BBQ Championships

Voted " #1 Mountain Festival " by Westword Magazine

Official Colorado State BBQ Championship

Just like last year, we will head up to the hills (the back way, not on the Interstate) to Frisco for the Colorado BBQ Challenge on Saturday, June 25th. This ride includes about 110 miles of twisties and mountain roads each way, plus about 2 hours of Beet, Bones, BBQ, and good ol' fashioned smoke while there. Come enjoy the BBQ samples ($buck a bone) and have a cold one. Details:

Leave Denver: 9 am from Coors Brewery, Golden Co (Visitor Center / Tour entrance at 13th and Ford) via Hwy 285 and Fairplay, CO. Arrive Fairplay 11 am. Meet Colorado Springs group. About 80 miles, 2 hours.

Leave Colorado Springs: Guiseppe's Old Depot Restaurant (downtown by the tracks) at 9 am also. This route goes thru Woodland Park and Florissant on US 24 to Fairplay, CO. About 85 miles, 2 hours.

Leave Northern Colorado: Meet in Boulder at Starbucks, 3033 Arapahoe Rd. at 30th St. Meet 8 am, leave 8:15 to Golden, CO and to meet the Denver Group. (Take Broadway to CO 93 to Golden to the Brewery entrance at 13th and Ford. See map below)

BOTH GROUPS WILL MEET AT THE FAIRPLAY PIZZA HUT, IT IS ON HWY 9 / 285 JUST S OF MAIN ST, CAN'T MISS IT. IF YOU ARE COMING FROM THE SPRINGS YOU WILL GO RIGHT BY IT. IF YOU ARE COMING FROM DENVER YOU WILL GO BY IT IF YOU STAY ON 285 AND DO NOT TURN NORTH. (If you do miss it, the emergency locator number is 303-807-9483)

Arrive Frisco: About Noon (remember, mountain roads)
Eat, Drink, be Merry 2 hours or so
Return to Denver 2:00 or so, give or take, thereabouts, I think
Bring a jacket - last year, we had snowflakes over Hoosier Pass

UPDATE!!! MINI5280 will provide each attending MINI driver with a nice supply of 'sample' tickets, enabling you to 'sample' or taste a wide variety of BBQ items! The club appreciates it's members, so we want to help you enjoy BBQ!! Join us for the ride, and the samples are yours!! ( WE CALL THEM BUCK-A-BONE TICKETS)

Who really cares. We have an excuse to Motor, Eat and Drink in a great setting. Sign up below for the fun!!!

See www.townoffrisco.com for more details. Click on Event, then BBQ. Or go to http://www.townoffrisco.com/Application1.pdf for more info.

Rocky Mountain National Park anyone?

Kenn Lively, President and Web Slave of MOTR (Minis of the Rockies) has just posted the following ride update. The ride was NOT originally scheduled to RMNP, but now it is. So this is a big deal, and you may wish to come along:

Still meeting at the Park and Ride at Ward Road and I70:

When: 9:30 AM Sunday, June 26, 2005 (come a few mins early)
Where: I-70 and Ward Road Park and Ride

I've considered several routes, and put 3 hours as the duration of the ride when I entered it into our NEW Website calendar ( www.minisrock.com), but I'm thinking that Trail Ridge Road would be breathtaking this time of year. What do you think America? Let me know. If we do Trail Ridge, it'll cost $15 to enter Rocky Mountain National Park (unless you're 62 or older--then it's $10, and that's for life), and bring long pants and a warm, wind-resistant jacket.

See ya Sunday,
Kenn Lively
MOTR Slave and President
