Magical Mystery MINI Tour 2008

Magical Mystery Mini Tour 2008

Well I thought it might be time to update many of you on what’s going on and what is planned for the Magical Mystery Mini Tour 2008 in San Francisco September 5-7, 2008. The event headquarters will be on the Great Lawn on Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay. If you have never been here, the view from the Great Lawn is spectacular of the SF Skyline, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, etc.

We have a very busy schedule planned and I am sure that many will want to participate in some runs & events but maybe not all.

The main event will be our sunset BBQ dinner and live concert on Treasure Island on Saturday night. Then we will have a Sunrise beach bonfire and breakfast on Ocean Beach early Sunday morning before leaving on our Steve McQueen memorial drive through San Francisco. We will have runs planned and mapped for the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marin Headlands, Mt. Tamalpias, Stinson Beach, the Napa and Sonoma County wineries, the Santa Cruz Mountains, and a visit to Infineon Raceway (Sears Point). We also have made some tentative arrangements with the San Francisco Giants to get some group/package tickets and special treatment for Friday nights Giants/Pirates game at AT&T Park. There is plenty to see & do in San Francisco, so plan to time to ride the cable cars and see they city while you are here.

We are working with the City of SF, National Parks Department, the SF Police & Fire Department, the Treasure Island Development Authority to be sure we have all of the areas reserved and the proper permits in place so that we can enjoy our weekend without problems or interruptions.

We are also working with several Mini Cooper vendors and business to provide booths at the headquarters on TI. We are also working with some major corporate sponsors to help differ many of the costs. Once we have a better idea of how many will be attending, we can better estimate what the registration costs may be. We are hoping that those will be minimal.

We have been working with several hotels. We hope to get some package deals in place. Again we need to know the numbers in order to get those worked out. We will try to set up packages in a variety of hotels so that everyone will find something in their budget.

There will be rental Mini Coopers available on a limited basis. Contact information is listed on the website.

There are three RV Parks in the SF area that can accommodate those bringing RVs. They do not allow RV parking on Treasure Island. We will post names and contact information on the website shortly. For updates and event schedules please visit the website at www.magicalmysteryminitour.com.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a Happy & Healthy New Year. If you have not signed up for this event please visit the website and register. This will put you on the email list and give us better numbers to plan by. Also please tell all your Mini friends to do the same.

Cheers,

Norman Nelson

Here is good news for those of you that have been dragging your feet!

Because of recent announcements from both Mini Mania and Moss Motors promoting the Magical Mystery Mini Tour, and extensions for the "final number of participants" given to us from our vendors; we have extended the cut-off date for registration of $100 per car until August 20th. Therefore you can continue registering using our dedicated web site until then.

After August 20th, advance registrations will no longer be accepted online but registration will be allowed at the door on the days of the event as space allows. The cost of "at the door" registration will be posted shortly. Only cash payments will be accepted on the day of the event.

Unfortunately the tee shirt order has to be placed today (August 1st) so there will be no more pre-ordering of the event tee shirts. I will have some additional tee shirts available on Treasure Island but they will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Supplies will intentionally be limited since I want them all sold before the event is over. The tee shirt option has been removed from the downloadable registration and PayPal forms.

I look forward to seeing you all having fun on this exciting weekend!
