track only tires?

I have a '04 MCS that I take to Thunder Hill as often as possible. Not class racing (BIG MINI DAYS, HOD etc)and basically a stock car. I run in the fastest classes and am quite competative but I'm going through tires at an incredible rate. Been running Eagle F1 D3's and like them but want to get some track only tires with maybe a better chance at longevity. Slicks? Anybody have any experience with this being a good idea or do I just keep on with replacing my street tires. Also, I would probably end up putting these on to drive to T.H. and back but that's not too far and no other street use.

Try some Toyo RA-1's. I get mine from AIM at Infineon.

They are DOT R compound so you can drive them to the track if you want.

Agree, RA-1s. Though there are others. these seem to have earned their spot as one of the best R comps for track days and some racing. You must get them shaved though. I have a link someplace for one of the best prices, but my computer is down and I'm on my sons so I don't have it available.

The RA1s are a great tire and will last a lot longer then street tires.
ALSO, if you do not have camber plates and lower rear controle arms then this is a must when going with RA1s, or really any tire for track use. Worth the investment as you will double your tire life, at the least.

I agree with RA-1's. We shave them to 4/32. I am sure you can find someone up in No. Cal to shave them. I agree with Greg on the suspension, those upgrades are not that expensive to do. Also, you can get Team Dynamics 17" x 7 wheels that are not real expensive and they are quite light and good for track days.

Thunder Hill is a great track, you will love the Toyo's if you decide to go that route.

Toyo RA-1

I have 12 brand new RA 1's that I want to sell if anyone is interested. They are 205/40/R17. They are shaved to 4/32nds ready to mount and race.

I also have 4 slightly used RA 1's, full tread depth for use as rain tires. Since it never rains in AZ, I have only used them as 'transport' tires . . . on and off the trailer.

I bought them last fall for my spec racer which is now retired. There was a shortage of RA 1's so I stocked up when they became available.

Sorry . . . no wheels for sale. My race wheels will be used on my Grand Am car.

asking $100 each . . . ask around, it's a bargain.

Send me a Private message if you're interested.

RA1, as everyone already said... but i am on Hankook Z214, and they are pretty good as well, but they have zero grooves, so the moment standing water gets in your way you'd better be ready

I'm not sure what size you're looking for, but Frisby has a closeout sale on the older Hankook Z211's. Pretty good prices.
