Pair of victories for Octane Motorsport MINI.
Mosport was the setting for the August 12-13 running of BARC’s Canadian Touring trophy.
The weekend was split in 2 races: a 20-minute sprint on Saturday and a 40-minute race on Sunday.
The Orange #47 John Cooper Works MINI Cooper S, managed to qualify in second position for race #1, 8/10th of a second behind the pole sitter. We were happy to qualify second as the car was a handful during the session. We found out after the session that our alignment was out of normal specifications by quite a margin, explaining the handling difficulties experienced. The issue was promptly rectified before the race.
The Octane MINI was helped by a great start as by corner #3, a handful of cars were passed, including the class pole-sitter, our closest follower in the championship race.
While things were very exciting for a few laps, normal positions resumed after lap 5 and the MINI Cooper S was followed closely by the Volkswagen GTI. The VW was never in a position to attack and the MINI would end up finishing first, the second team victory of the year. Everything was perfect all race long. The VW and the MINI turned very similar lap times all race but he never was in a position to move forward. Our good friends from M7 helped us this weekend and it showed on the performance of the car. We are very happy.
Sunday’s race starting position was determined by the finishing order of Saturday’s race, therefore, the Octane MINI, bearing MINI Original Parts colors would end up starting from the front for cars in the T2 category. We had a similar start to the first race. While our closest championship competitor followed-up closely for the first 30 minutes, he retired shortly thereafter, his VW GTI belching large amounts of smoke while driving through pit lane. The Octane MINI, using Castrol lubricants would collect its third win of the season, increasing its lead in the championship.
The next race in the championship will see another stop at Mosport International Raceway on August 26-27 for the 6th weekend of the Ontario Touring Championship, the CRDA/VARAC Presidents' Trophy. The format will remain the same with a 20-minute race on the Saturday, followed by a 40- minute on the Sunday.

Good to see you and the car improving, how many races to wrap up the championship.
Hope you get to cvome race here in the States, with BMWCCA or here in Louisiana. We have a great weekend in October on the 6th, 7th & 8th with two sprint races and an 90 min. enduro. I've won the enduro overall twice and in class. Maybe I could get Greg to come down for Cajun food as well.
Anyway, good luck & post some videos .
Going to Brazil this week for 10 days, will race karts for R&R.
Regards,
Steve
Thanks all for the kind words. It's not the driver, it's the car!
Paulo, I am considering doing a few races in the US, but that won't happen before next year! But I doubt I will go as far as Louisiana! May be a match-up with Greg? Just sent you a PM.
Tony B: Too many eyes and ears here....But Peter and M7 make some VERY nice parts!!!

Congrats on your victories at Mosport. I may see if I can get up to the race later in August. Have you given any thought to the BMW Club race at the Glen in Sept. Would be great to see you their. Good Luck.
