Getting the cocpit started. Just starting with a mockup in the pic below. Hope to have much of this done this weekend.
Note, everthing is still in primer as there is still more welding to do. All sorts of mounting tabs and whatnot.

Nice job Greg. I guess NAMer's will start to understand what your car is all about. Not the "throw a cage in it" and it's a race car routine. You'll have to learn how to speak French Canadian when you go up to run with Alain. They always change from English to French when they talk in private. Sorry Alain.
Had to get a shot in.

I'm really getting excited thinking of seeing both of your cars on the Track at the same time. Hopefully up north once and down here in the states.

Keep up the great work.

That might explain why my scale reads 135 lbs and 4.9% fat... and that I'm constanlty cold, when alone!

Kudos to you Greg, 30 pounds is a nice achievment, and good for about 2 hp also .

Looks like you lost the multi-function steering wheel, and with that the ability to change channels, volume, bands and input. I guess you are pretty serious about this!

I've been pulling for ya since you were contemplating this path.... and I love what I see!

What is this car going to be legal in ? Also, what material did you use for the cage tubing? Mild?

The car is coming along nicely and has shown a lot of progress since my last visit. The cage is really something to see as well as that tunnel for the side exhaust. If people could see some of the other cars your fabricator has built they would understand where the expertise comes from . He has certainly been at it a long time as we talked about some mutual racing buddies from the early 70's . Greg did you say that the bare cage on the jig in the shop was the same GT car that you have in your sig?If that's the case your ride has a nice family tree. Keep up the great work, can't wait to see the finished product.

Brian, Yea, D-mod in BMW and also GTS in NASA. Pretty much any Mini S that has been modified with simply a pulley is pretty much not legal for most classes. Not too many homes for a modified S on the race track.

Cage is a combination of 1.75x.095 and .065 DOM mild steel. No chromoly. Not too many people use that anymore in the USA as most rules don't allow it to be used in smaller dimension as it once was before. Yes, stronger, but that's about it.

Dash? ... not 100% sure, but most likely none. I'm paying very close attention to the ergonomics of the interior. What you see in the pics is still VERY rough and still just in protective primer.

Hey randy,
The car in my sig is one of Ted's sister cars that he built. It's exactly like the one we are restoring, though the one we are restoring has quite a bit more race history on it.
Here is a pic of the car you saw....

Why do I get a feeling you'll be running in two cars this year. Must have something to do with a saying "no matter what you do, it's still only a MINI Greg"

Better get that license soon!!!!

What are the rules for BMWCCA? NASA allows a 1.5" x.120" or 1.75" x.95" in both mild and Chrome-moly as of 2006. I believe the same is true for SCCA, but I could be wrong.

You should have a fiberglass or carbon peice made to look like the dash. That would be HOT!

Yea, ... what I meant was that they, SCCA and BMW used to allow one size smaller, i.e. 1.5 x .095 in lue of 1.75 x .095 if you used CM. Thus there used to be a weight savings. But now CM must be the same dimension so really no gains but for being stronger.

Yea, a CF or aluminum dash has been considered. Just not sure yet as it would not really serve any real purpose.

I see. I must have looked at the old SCCA ccr.

I know for USTCC a dash is required to "look like" the OEM version which was were that idea came from.

Maybe I will upload pictures of my new cage when its finished. Maybe even have you critique it for me ?
