Helmet, what kind do you have?

well right now i have a Simpson Helmet very close to this one:

but the problem it is a SA 95. in 2006 they are no longer legal, even though my helmet is in great shape (no hits or nicks). so i need to upgrade. i was looking at this helmet:

i was thinking i would get a bit better helmet this time as i really will spend the money to have good safety items. go nomex, SA2005 so i can keep it long time, and a flip down shield this time for the fun go-kart track days. i also would like to give it a custom paint job, but that is still up in the air....
keep in mind i wear glasses and want a full face helmet.

i have always grown up with the Simpson name at the tracks and like the looks so that has been the way i have been leaning, but here is the question.

What helmet do you have, do you like it, why do you like it (options on the helmet), would you buy it again, or what do you have your eye on right now?

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

chad

I run the Bell SR Pro. Great for DE and such, but when I get serious about racing I most likely will do more of a full coverage. Will also go with a vented helmet that can take a blower.

I remember when that style came out Chad. Star wars.
If you want a full coverage then DO consider one that can be hooked up to a blower. These things work great when it's real hot.

I have a G-Force Pro Force 1 but it's a SA95. Need to upgraded it soon. Still in good shape. One thing you have too look at in the older helmets is that they may look good from outside but all the Foam and Padding can get hard and crack. I'm not sure what I'm going to get next though.

What do you guys think about the HANS device?

i am pro HANS device, but would only use it with a car with a 5 point race belt and a full cage and a good seat.

I'm on the BMWCCA Club Racing Digest List and these last couple of days there has been an avid discussion regarding the HANS. There was the first ever BMWCCA CR track fatality at the end of the summer at NHIS so they have been talking about safety quite a bit. Seems like a majority of people on the list are pro HANS, I beleive a lot of racing series will make it mandatory in the coming years anyway. It is not something that is going to wear much either. Just have to make sure the attachment & tethers are in good shape. Just something to get used to wearing while on track.

I also agree that it's something that needs to be used with a full 5-Point & Cage.

for the HANS.

I use the Hans! I think I will start a post about it and car safety.
