Autocross Helmet
Autocross Helmet
SO I was looking at getting into some HSAX this season and doing some regular autocross as well for fun, I was just at autobahn country club for the MSCC free driving school and I need to get some stuff for the season but I believe the most important is the helmet which brings me to this one I found for a great deal, has anyone used it just would like some feedback before I pull the trigger

I'm not familiar with that helmet brand, but the Snell SA 2010 spec should allow you to run it with just about any autocross or tracking group.
The questions you should have about any Snell approved helmet are: fit to your own head, weight (less important for AX than for road racing), and quality of construction, including the inside where your head goes. For those considerations, it's probably best to visit a shop where you can examine different helmets and try them on for proper fit to your own head shape. For example, Simpson and Arai may fit more oval heads better, while Bell may fit more rounded heads better. I've never found a Bell of any size that fit my more oval head comfortably. You want a firm fit, but comfortable all around your head (no "hot spots").
When you examine helmets, you may notice some variation in quality of construction where your head fits. Arai is excellent in this regard, but they're expensive. Bell and Simpson seem good enough, but this is sometimes the place where you'll understand why some helmets are so cheap. Cheaper helmets also seem to be somewhat heavier and come in limited sizes (like S, M, L, and XL).

It pretty much is road racing they call it High Speed Autocross, but we are on a real track just do not go wheel to wheel they stager us on the track. I will do a few parking lot events just because of the cost and they are close to the house less than 5miles so really no excuse lol. I am mainly concerned with air flow because I don't want to have a fogged up face mask it has happened on a motor cycle to me before. They have a fitment guides so it should be alright honestly I really can't afford anything else witch stinks. the helmet also comes with a head sock and a bag with shipping included it’s a pretty good deal
Hey dboard7,
I just got a Pyrotect PYR-9125005 SA2010 open face helmet from soloperformance.com. They were great to work with and I think do free shipping too. its a little more expensive than what you are looking at but it may be another option for you.
MSCC is the madison sports car club right?
And I assume you are talking about the autobahn country club in Joliet, IL? The Chicago Region SCCA usually has a couple PDX events at autobahn, you should check into those too.

Having run full face helmets for many years on motorcycles, I really appreciate the open face design for autocross.
Better visibility, better cooling, and lighter weight are the principal advantages I reckon.
Cheers,
Charlie

I used a full face shoei for the last couple years. it was fine but did get hot. looking forward to the open face pyrotect I just got.
I did an event at Blackhawk farms last year. it was a lot of fun. much more challenging than I had anticipated. do you have a schedule of events up online? Do I have to be a member of MCSCC to participate? I'd like to do some more track days this year.

You do not need to join a club to participate but it is better if you are going to do multiple events its only around $50 to join and its about $25 less per race as a member I believe don't quote me exactly haha

I ordered one from www.helmetcity.com before two days and got my Simpson Hybrid pro resistant today. $850 with free shipping, came with 2 stickers & a helmet bag. Good looking and lightweight. I think its suitable for my adventurous trips on weekends.
