Track Tire Suggestions Needed

Thanks to wsj3200, we picked up some 13 lb gunmetal Rota Slipstreams for a sweet deal. They are 16 x 6.5 and I have been trying to find some reasonably priced R compounds to put on them. I was looking at Avon Tech RA, but it looks like they are out of production. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of options for this size rim. I was looking at 205 and 215. Can I go out to a 225 with these? Anybody have any good suggestions where I wouldn't have to pay over $200 per tire? If not R compound, then what would be a good track tire for HPDEs

Hey Wes,

minispeedrcr has all the dope on 16" wheels & tires. Good luck in your search.

Cheers,
Sid

I just got some NT01s for roughly $150 per tire in 215/45/17. You should be able to shoehorn some 225/45/16 on your wheels for less than that. The tires performed fantastically and made me feel like a superstar at my last track event

there was a set of wheels with (8) RA1's for sale for $800. Maybe that's a better way to go....buy the lot, sell your Slipstreams

I run the 225/50/16 on my MCS but it requires the use of 15mm spacer up front and 5mm out back. I run the V710s from Kuhmo the have been great for DEs so far.

Just a suggestion, sell the 16" rims and buy 15 x 7" rims.
The benefits are plenty: 225/45 15's, optimum size and plenty of manufacturers have this size.
Your wil be lower, your gearing wil be lower therefore you will accelerate faster etc...
I've been racing on 15's for 4 years, they are better.
