Solano County Loop - 10/01/05 (3 county tour)
Solano County Loop - 10/01/05 (4 county tour)
Howard has planned another beautiful run! We will meet in the historic Sonoma Plaza at 9am and leave promptly at 9:30am. We will take some of our favorite twisty mountain roads into Napa Valley and head across the valley to SR-128 towards Winters.
We will drive on some less driven valley and mountain roads through Vacaville and Fairfield to Napa where we will have lunch around 1:30pm. Maps are downloadable at: http://redwoodempiremini.com/calendar.htm and a signup list is at http://www.redwoodempiremini.com/mbb...asp?eventid=56 (you will have to register on the REME MegaBBS to RSVP for this event).

This route will include Trinty Road and Oakville Grade Road from Sonoma County into Napa County and possibly Saint Helena Road or Franz Valley Road and Chalk Hll Road after lunch if traveling west into Sonoma County.
We will be traveling on some of the most beautiful, twisty roads in 4 counties. Bring your 2-way radios set at channel 7-21.

I have a pair of Uniden 2-way radios model GMR895-2ck... they are great with an 8 mile range, rechargable battery and recharging stand. They have 22 chanels and 38 CTCss codes (sub-channels) and cost around $75 back in September '04 off Amazon.com. Because of their range and the number of channels and CTCSS codes they do require an FCC GMRS license which is about $80 for 5 years I think. I bet I am one of the few that actually bought the license.
You can likely buy an inexpensive pair of Motorolas from Costco for around $29.00. Avoid the radios that have only 14 channels even if they still have the 38 subchannels.
Thank you to everyone that attended our October Solano County Loop Run. This was a 4-county tour starting in Sonoma and ending in Napa. A special thanks goes to Howard who planned the route as well as lead most of it. I was so happy to see old friends as well as new MINI faces. You can view photos on our Albums page link. There are additional links photos on members off-site pages from the REME MegaBBS.
This was my first MINI run and I have to say it a blast. I don't think my wife was as enthused as she was not driving, but she has started planning on getting her self a MINI as soon as we can afford it. For now she just "borrows" mine any chance she gets. Thanks for the invite. I look forward my next MINI adventure.
