Big-time CEL...

Bummed. On the way to work early this morning, -5 degrees out, roads still covered with packed snow from yesterday's storm, so we're doing a little unintended slipping and sliding. Went to accelerate up a slight hill and the power suddenly dropped to almost nothing and the big half-yellow CEL came on. Felt like it was running on three cylinders with no boost. Managed to get it to the dealer, though it barely -- and I mean barely -- made it up even the slightest inclines. Still waiting to hear from them. They were digging out and still had their service bay stuffed to the rafters with Mini's, so who knows when they're going to get to look at it. Did not have a chance to yank the JB+, so I hope they don't give me a stink about that.

Wow -- quick response from the dealer, considering they weren't scheduled to open until 10 AM because of the weather. Car had a bad coil. They replaced them all and a new set of plugs. Gonna keep it overnight so they can check it again after a cold start in the morning. Strange that it would pick the coldest day of the year (so far) to crap out.

Glad things weren't too costly for you and they didn't give you any grief on the JB+. My car is still under warranty so I too will have to remember to unplug that sucker before taking it in to the dealer.

All better. They never mentioned the JB+ at all. Replaced coils, plugs, and flashed something in the ECU; not sure what they flashed, but they needed to keep it overnight because it was going to take a few hours. Still under warranty, so no $$$ out of my pocket. More of an inconvenience than anything, although I did get an extra work-from-home day out of it. And, after driving the new Cooper S loaner for a short time, I actually missed my Paceman.

I have the JB+ as well and have an oil change due soon. The JB+ is performing so nicely that I've considered going to the local shop for an oil change so I can leave the JB connected. This is good news but do you think the dealer will still destroy warranties over the JB+?

I think it will depend on the dealer and what kind of issue comes up that could bump against the warranty. Being that my issue was electronic, it absolutely was in the back of my mind that they could have made a stink because of the JB+. But they never mentioned it. Now this dealer has been very good to me (on my 5th MINI now, they should be), on both scheduled maintenance and unscheduled breakages. YMMV!
