Hey guys, does anyone know what the thickest tire I can put on a stock paceman without having to put a lift kit on? I'm really not a fan of the run flats and want something more comfortable.

If you wanted a comfortable car why buy a MINI? Drop a wheel size or 2, if you're running 18's go down to 16's, the higher profile sidewall should improve things but it's never going to be a smooth riding car, that's not the MINI way.

 

Just getting off of the R/Fs will improve your ride.

Knowing what you have now for tires and wheel size will help others to make suggestions though. Just sayin'. :D

 

my sall4 has the factory sport suspension (10 mm lower than standard)

i am running 225/50R18 michelin pilot super sport summer tires - 26.9 inch od and 205/70R16 dunlop grandtrek sj6 winter tires - 27.3 inch od

the stock 225.45R18 tire is 25.9 inch od

Just to be clear, I love my car. One of the main reasons I bought a MINI is because of the ride quality and tight suspension - just not a fan of run flats feeling a little more of the bumps than I like to feel.

I have stock suspension on a front wheel drive R61S with the turbo fan 18" wheels

I am running 245 45 18 in Bridgestone S04 Poles on my Paceman the ride and grip is awesome, it really transformed the look and stance of the vehicle. Another great choice would be the Michelin Pilot Super Sport in a 235 45 18, have a friend running them on his JCW Countryman and said it improved the handling and ride quality tremendously.

If you have the lower sport suspension I would do the Michelin Pilot Super Sport in a 235 45 18.

 

are you running aftermarket wheels or spacers on the oem wheels? 245/45R18s rubbed on the front struts on my 2012 all4 with sport suspension, 235/45R18 had only about 1/8 inch clearance

i have a local independant tire shop where i test fit various sized tires before purchasing the 225/50R18 michelin PSS

the same shop helped me figure out i could run 205/70R16 winter tires on the mini euro oem alloy wheels

 

18tirerack is not the be-all end-all of knowledge, i use tirerack and agree they have lots of good info

i was told the 205/70R16 winter tires would not fit, and that 205/65R16 would not fit ... be they do ... checked by test fitting at a friendly independant local tire store before purchase

at the same time, test fit 245/45R18s and they rub the front strut on my 2012 all4 with sport suspension ... 235/45R18 had only 1/8 inch clearance to the strut, 225/50R18 had same clearance as stock to the strut and OD wise they clear fine

 

I have stock rims with no spacers or clearance issues on my 2013 Paceman S fwd running the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position in 245 45 18. We rarely get snow but they performed better than I expected from a maximum Performance Summer tire. (see photo below)

mine is an all4 with sport suspension ... wonder what is different? the shock strut itself or the hub to strut distance or maybe the hub itself? ... there is no way a 245/45R18 will fit my CM with stock wheel and no spacers

EDIT: my small local independant shop's house brand is hankook, so that is the brand of tire we test fit ... don't recall which exact tire, but it was a "performance" tire due to the section height

 

The front of the R60 and R61 should be the same, although I have the sport package I didn't opt for the lowered sport suspension. I'm thinking the shorter sport suspension decreases the angle of the shock or the sport suspension shocks are bigger in diameter or maybe a combo of the two.
