R61 Mini paceman?
At first, I really didn't like the looks of it. I had only seen it in pictures and from my experience with the Countryman, I was prepared to be disappointed. (This is based solely on looks BTW)
HOWEVER,
I got to experience it at the auto show the other day, and was really impressed by it. It looks much leaner and has a much more sporting look to it than the Countryman. I definitely get a bit of an Evoque vibe from it, but I almost feel like the Paceman will be less dated looking down the road.
Ingress and egress to and from the rear seats was a little awkward because of the raised ride height, but was still manageable.
I left hoping that the F56 Coupe will get some of the Paceman's rear end styling.

I'm a fan, I'm enjoying all the MINI permutations over the last couple of years.
4/5'ths scale Evoque was my first impression, and I was alright with that.
Will eyeball one (or more?) in person at the NAIAS this weekend!

I love it! I saw it at the NAIAS this past week and fell in love. It's like a Countryman but more sportier. I like how the roof-line slopes down as it goes toward the back of the car. It's the little things like that, that really make a difference to me.
Got a chance to check the Paceman out in person today at the Detroit auto show. Very nicely done! I like that there's this combination available.
A couple of the WRR guys were aghast at the door mounted window switches...they looked fine to me.
Very nice display overall...was crowded!

Mine is ordered and scheduled for production.
Being tall I love the longer doors, being an empty nester, I won't have need of the back seats much. I do like the design of the back seats though.
I just love the the sportier style over all. The only thing I miss a bit is the little extra headroom that the countryman has.
I went with the sport suspension which puts the Paceman a little lower to the ground.
Seeing it in person at the show sold me on it.

So early on Sunday at the Detroit Auto Show, I revisited the Paceman and spent some quality time with it, and the JCW CM that was nearby.
I liked the idea of the Paceman as 2-dr MINI'sh conveyance for 4 adults; carrying 4 grown-ups in my MCS is tricky / cramped / a circus act if they're all about my size (6', 225). I did that standard fitment test, where you see if you can reasonably ride in the seat behind a driver's seat adjusted for you. I could pretty well in the CM; not in the Paceman.
Hmmm.
The display Paceman was a sunroof, so with that and the sloping roofline, I didn't have headroom without slouching. But my legs didn't really fit either.
Puzzling, these cars share the same wheelbase, IIRC from other posts.
Just eyeballing it, it *appears* the Paceman uses a rear seat mounting point that's a bit ahead of where it mounts in the CM, and that may be the difference. The Paceman has more of a trunk floor, and just eyeing the seatback in relation to the rear tire through the sideglass on both seems to support this. I'll be interested to see some real reviews where tape measures for legroom are provided. Anyhow, just my perception.
I wasn't looking to change out my MCS anytime soon, really, but was very interested to see if the Paceman could be a "plus sized" 2-dr MINI with room for four adults. It isn't, quite, if they're in the larger percentiles like I am.

Thanks a lot for the comments and thoughts guy! No offense but imo I still like my hardtop better (even though its still recovering from a crash). Very interested though when people actually buy the paceman!
I can't wait to see a Paceman in person.
I really like the photos because it looks like a chopped car. I have wanted to chop an R53 but can't find a shop I trust to do it.
Yes, a Countryman is more practical, but the Paceman looks so good.

Anything bigger than a standard size MINI, is not a MINI. After all, isn't the reason of buying a MINI, is having a MINI?!!!!! it's supposed to b e small. For that matter, go and buy a fit! Or anything similar. .... .IMHO ijs peace
So my favorite MA called today to inform me that there's going to be a Paceman at Inskip MINI tomorrow (Friday) afternoon (anybody in the RI area who's interested, take note!). Guess where I'll be heading straight from work that I'll very likely be leaving early.
Pics from it's temporary visit to the dealer.
My favorite MA said they started taking orders yesterday, and it should be available for test drives in a few weeks.
Up close, it's bigger than I expected -- even though everything I've read says it's the same size as the Countryman, I just had a different view in my head. Not huge, but definitely bigger than the hardtop. Very comfortable to sit in. Lots of room in the boot, and the rear seat releases (to fold them down) are on the back of the seats, not the front like the Countryman.
I love the looks -- just gotta get behind the wheel now. If it drives more like my MCS and less like the Countryman, there will be one in my garage soon.

It does look nice with the green. Mine was getting it's paint job as of last Thursday. I wonder how long they take to go through the assembly line after that. Dealer believes it will be delivered by the end of this month. Sooner then I thought.
Anything bigger than a Morris Mini isn't a mini
Anything bigger than an R50/R53 isn't a mini
Anything bigger than a clubman isn't a mini
ad nauseam
Don't like it, don't buy one. MINI's aren't that small anymore, there are other factors that make them valid extensions of the brand.
Mine is headed to the shipping yard so I guess I'll know before too long.
