R61 Would you get a Paceman instead?
After getting inside the Paceman JCW today at the auto show, I'm not impressed. I feel like I don't even know who the buyer market they are trying to bring in. Now the Countryman ALL4 JCW was pretty cool. I understand the buyers market with the R60. But I thought it was going to be better with the designs they talked about. The 0-60 was sad, the price for it was sad, and the only thing I thought that looked good was the boot of the Paceman. Anyone else got a chance to see the Paceman? I'd like to know your thoughts!
I'm very happy with my CM and if I was gonna go smaller I'd just go back to MINI convertible.
I don't tow around a lot of people but I like having 4 doors.
Something that bothers me about the paceman are all those badges on the back..."MINI' "PACEMAN", and "COOPER"...it's like too much. Also the sloped back.
That being said I still would like to see one in person.

I was at the Detroit show as well. Went there to see the Paceman specifically. I personally loved it. I like the style over the countryman and being 6'6", I love the longer doors. I was a little concerned about the loss of headroom, but it's still ok.
The only thing I don't like about it is the rear visibility, that being said. I'm ordering one as soon as I can.

The badging is probably the last thing I'd get hung up on. Other than the MINI wings on the boot - the rest can easily be removed with 20 minutes, a hair drier, and some dental floss..
Mini USA is live with the builder. My dealer also called me and said I can order it but only at MSRP. I will be waiting until at least the car buying service discounts are included (PenFed, Navy Credit Union etc). The average discount with the buying service is only $1500 with the Mini but at least it isn't MSRP.
If anybody is interested in seeing a Paceman (non JCW) up close and personal, there will be a company demo Paceman at Keeler Motors in Latham, NY (just outside Albany), next Monday, January 28th in the afternoon. No test drives allowed, unfortunately. It will be at New Country MINI in Hartford, CT on Monday, February 4th as well.

I am going to into the dealers in my area this weekend. But I am in no hurry if I have to pay MSRP. I know it's a new model so I don't blame them. I just took delivery Dec 22 of a 13 Mini Conv from one of the dealers so I hope I get some kind of deal being a repeat customer. Though waiting until summer is not a problem if Mini wants sticker price.
Then you have to wage that against how much your current car will depriciate and cost to maintain over 6 months. You may save that much, you may save little.
Make sure you shop around. The two dealers in my region were $1500 below MSRP.
No. I just ordered my 2013 CM and wouldn't even consider waiting for a Paceman. I don't like the style at all and I prefer 4 doors. And, considering there isn't much power or speed benefit for what you're losing from the CM...
