Angry 2011 S, 3K miles, several issues

First off the cosmic blue paint is awefull. there are so many swirlmarks, and it seems to scratch by just looking at it. This is my wife's car, and it is already more scratched after 6 weeks, than the BMW X3 we just turned in. Mini actually took it in to try and rectify, we are getting it back today or tomorrow. The air conditioner is weak, and cant get the car properly cold. we have had it checked twice and they just say its within specs. My 6 year old mercedes still blows way colder than that. There is a chemical smell that is strong and burns your eyes, they say its normal...it goes away when A/C is turned off. Its is funny, the loaner I got with the same miles (a regular cooper) did not have this smell, and had no problem staying cold.
The iphone holder keeps breaking, seems cheap.
I am disappointed at the mechanical noise at idle...they say an S does this because of the turbo...why does a 335i not do this, or any other turbo car i have driven ?
The ride is "rubbish" to use a british term......yes its an S...but it BUMPS along.....which is not sporty...I have had both M5's and M3's...way sportier...with HARD suspensions, nut this bumping along...reminds me of the ride in an empty ford F350 4x4......

anybody else have paint/finish issues. Under two months, and i have tried three different loaner cars already, really ?

My Cosmic Blue All4 is wonderful. Had to have a loaner with my previous MINI and they gave me a BMW. That I truly hated.

BRGII, 2K miles, 2.5 months old. No problems with paint.

Not sure what color your X3 was. Paint color makes a huge difference as to what you perceive as imperfections. Dark cars are a real B%tch to clean and keep looking "showroom," but in the end they are worth it. From my initial impressions, the MINI paint is very high quality.

My MINI's paint is better than my Subaru's. You don't know crappy paint until you owned a Subaru.

Sorry to hear of your issues....hopefully your service department is like most of ours and will work to make the corrections and or get you answers, if not sit with your SM.
I also have the Cosmic Blue and I ordered it before I actually saw it in person. When I finally saw one in the showroom I loved it but also knew it would be a on going effort to keep it looking great. Showed every smudge and fingerprint and was still in the showroom. I think any dark car, especially metallic is something you have to accept as continually needing a quick detail now and then. I keep a good duster (California) with me and also use formula 113 / bead wax. They have excellent products for a quick detail by hand. Never power buff your car....it'll never be the same....even most paint shops who think they know what there doing will burn right thru the clear to the paint.
Let us know how you make out..... Good luck.

No problems to report with Pure Orange. Everything is within acceptable range and happier than I was with my BMW. On the AC front, small engines are somewhat of a challenge. After 10 hours sitting in the sun in an open asphalt Metro lot, Zaftig is pretty hot. I generally put it on MAX and vent the sunroof for the first 5 minutes. Once the hot air escapes and it get's a little cooler, I can put it on AUTO, close the roof, and be OK. Going to look for a windshield shade, eventually, to help.

Good luck and Happy Motoring! (Soon, I hope.)

No problems at all with my paint after eight months of ownership. The AC is awsome, I could store meat in mine even on 90 plus degree days which we get a lot around here. I love the ride and the handling. No chemical smell either. Sounds like you need to keep after the dealer.

Sorry to here of your experience, to the contrary mine has been great. that 2.5 months 8k miles (yes 8k miles).

No issues mechanically aside from a brief CEL, that corrected itself for 1 day, chalking that up to bad gas.

Maybe I was use to the awful A/C in my R56 but the CMs has been amazing, and thats in over a dozen 90+ days. I do have tint and a white car (although its a black roof) though.

I do have what can be called a "chemical" smell, but thats just the new car smell of the Mini, same as my R56 when new, certainly doesn't burn my eyes, I actually like it.

Light White here, paint is middle of the road. Nothing to write home about or curse. Have you had the car detailed? (clayed and waxed) If not, get it done immediately or the swirls will get worse every time you wash it. The car gets dried waterspots filled with dirt from sitting on the lot for weeks or months. (Most of the time these must be clayed off. Do not take it to the dealer, they will just buff it. Buffing dirty paint makes it worse.)

I'm not thrilled with the A/C. It takes 20 minutes before its cold, but it does get cold enough that I have to turn it down. Our 10 year Buick gets ice cold within minutes and it probably has near the same amount of cubic space.

Ride is pretty good considering the short wheelbase and the runflats. The ride really depends on what you're used to and what you expect. As does the whole car. The foundation of the Countryman is a $25K car with a short wheelbase optimized for handling not ride comfort. The 335i is a 40k car with an entirely different set of objectives. Go drive another car in the Countryman's size and class and see how it stacks up in ride, engine noise and paint.

Oh, and I own a F350 Dually 4x4 and they are not close in ride comfort.

Sounds like something is dodgy in your AC system, and from viewing other posts here I get the impression that some dealers aren't as enthusiastic as they should be when it comes to warranty issues. It might be worth while to take it to a shop that specializes in automotive AC and have them look it over. It will cost a few bucks, but small potatoes compared to what you paid for the car.

Got it back from the dealer, they supposedly "cut it" and clay barred etc re-applied the Cilajet (some snake oil thing this dealer applies to all cars)... they also buffed it. i am thinking the swirls are better, but all the minute scratches are still there. I am thinking this was a bad purchase all together....this last visit they claimed to have found cosmoline in the AC, cleaned that out ? still same smell, and burn. The loaner cooper, was slightly colder and had no smell. Paint also looked nicer.
