Oil Filter

Our 2013 All4 is now beyond the miles where we get free oil changes, and I'm about to start doing them myself. Anyone have a preference for which brand filter to use? I see Amazon has Mann filters for $9.76 and Mahle for $8.50, and at Rockauto.com you can get two of either for about $15-$16 including shipping.

Most BMW/MINI/VW/Audi use Mann or mahle filters as the OEM...as does gen1 AND gen3 MINI'S...remember, most every part has a least 2 makers, sometimes more...
GEN2 MINI'S use a pretty crappy French maker (forget the OEM name)...but would IMO choose Mann/mahle above the OEM, which might be a relabeled French hunk of junk...

Mann / Mahle are good ones , the factory ones are Purflux for the Gen 2 . We have the kits below which includes New Oil, drain plug , filter kit, and crush washer.

Gen 2 MINI Cooper 2007+ R56 R55 R57 R58 R59 & R60 R61 ( Oil filter housing on the driver side front of the engine )

You will need to get the socket for the oil change:

27mm, 6-Point Socket, 1/2" Drive

Filters only: Mann and Mahle don't come with the crush washer by themselves so you will need the washer x 1.

Crush washer: 11137546275

Mann Filters are great. See other options we list here.

It just so happens that I have a 1 1/16 inch socket in my toolbox that I use for removing the propeller from my boat. That's less then 4/1000's of an inch larger than 27mm. Can I assume it will work? Also, it's a 12 point socket versus the 6 point socket shown in the picture. That should be no problem, correct? Thanks.

I perfer the 6 point socket, but if you have a 12 point it will work, I prefer 6 hex to 6 hex for better grip. I would get the 27mm or if you feel that close enough, I would not want you to damage that plastic cap hex head over time.

Thanks, two good points. I'll do a "test run" and see how tight the fit is before I actually start the job. I hate to start a job only to have to scramble in the middle of it when I realize I don't have everyone I need. Thanks again.

I used a six point 1-1/16. It fit perfectly-no need to get a 27mm specific socket.
I am looking for an alternative to the OEM filter. It seems to cost way too much for what diminutive thing it is.

think its bad there? I paid almost 20$ at the mini stealership just for the filter, still cheaper then paying them to do the oil change tho, so a small price to pay for the convenience of not having to wait for shipping :P.

I bought 10 factory MINI oil filter kits on eBay recently for $140.00, with free shipping. In the factory boxes. Comes with everything you need. O-ring, filter, crush washer. I figure to have her for a while, so why not use factory stuff? No way to deny my extended warranty that way, right?

Keep the receipts for both the filters and synthetic oils, write down when you change the oil in a log book for the cars maintenance, this way you should be ok.

Update : We have included new ECS oil change window cling with each oil service kit as a helper to reminder for oil service intervals.

Ecs, Do you have a kit with oem filter, crush washer, o ring, replacement drain plug and window sticker? Basically the full OEM kit without the oil.

We offer the oil filters in packs. The more filters you get the better the price. Each filter comes with an oring and a copper crush washer for the drain plug.

Since your in GA you'll prob get next day.

I think that oil change window stickers and do-it yourself oil changing is a bit of an oxymoron.

Oil Filter

I'm in APO currently and this is why I don't want to ship the oil part. When I'm in GA I look for out of state sellers to save tax. The ECS package looks nice because of the window sticker and replacement drain plug all in one pack.
