Oil pressure issue?

Hey all, this started not too long ago. I have a 2012 R60 S with a 2011/12 engine date code, I was driving pretty normal and had to accelerate for an on ramp, and the red low oil lamp came on the screen on the tach when I hit about 3.5k rpm. I up shifted to get it out of that rev range, then pulled to the shoulder to see if I blew my pan out or if there was oil spraying anywhere, and there was nothing. So I continued to drive, without going over 3k rpm to be safe. I haven’t had any issues, but every time the revs hit 3.5k or higher the oil light comes on. What could the issue be?

You of course checked the oil level right?
I'd get it on a scanner tool and try to look at oil pressure values

yep, oil level and color are good. I change oil and filter every 5k miles and there were also no metallic bits in the oil. As for finding the oil pressure values, they’re buried somewhere deep in the ecu and I haven’t been able to find the pid codes so I can track them while driving.

Do you notice any rattle from the passenger side of the engine?

Sometimes a piece of plastic breaks off from the guide on the timing chain and drops into the pan. It can then get caught up in the oil pickup restricting the flow to the oil sump.

This is one of those time Carly would be good as it displays oil pressure for sure.

Good Luck!

Dan
