Oil light question-Important?

Hey Gang,

Earlier this week my oil light starting flashing at me. It was really hot outside and I was pushing the car all day. I pulled over and checked coolant and oil level. All ok.

It has been too long since my last oil change (I have been waiting for a certain new shop to open) so I thought maybe the oil filter was clogged. So I took it to a local shop and had them do an oil change

Well just now the oil light starting flashing again. This time I think only at idle. I know the issue with the oil filters and not replacing the spring properly causing this. But I had the issue before the oil change happened.

Thanks,
Michael

I will probably post this on NAMM as well

oil light question

Did you find out the problem with the oil light coming on. We have a similar problem with our 03 Cooper S. Thanks.

Not sure if it's a problem. It's popped up now and then on these boards. When hot, the MINI does tend (like most cars) to have very low oil pressure at idle. It could be your pressure switch is a little sensitive, oil pump showing signs of wear, or signs of bigger problems. The only way to tell is to hook up an oil pressure gauge and see what it reads.

Agreed. My oil pressure gauge is a great device. Once my oil is warmed up, above 200º, I have at least 10 psi per 1,000 rpm. Except at idle when it dips below the 7 psi minimum reading. I have my dummy light disabled and stock sender removed(replaced with the gauge sender)
