Alta turbo blanket install question

Hello! I picked up one of the Alta turbo blankets and have a question about the O2 sensor. They say it can be unplugged for install if I put the blanket over the OEM heat shield, but needs removal if you are taking off the OEM?

So to unplug, just gently pull the wire out? Is that going to come out easily? I don't want to damage anything

If I remove they mention a special O2 sensor socket. It looks like a 22mm crescent would work. Any reason to not do that, or do I need to buy the special socket? Seems like a waste but I would do it if there is a good reason to. Thanks!

Install went ok. I ended up detaching the other end of the O2 sensor wire and threaded it through. The biggest issue was some of those bolts are.a BEAST to get to! Lots of contortions and my forearm was bruised for a week. It's such a PITA that I installed over the stock shield. Definitely less heat in the engine compartment and looks cool as well

Thanks for the update. I keep kicking it around but I have a huge downpipe and the lower shield I cut off.
Got a new turbo going in and will see what I can come up with

I just installed an Alta Turbo Blanket today, and yes getting to the bolts are a beast. I did find that on my car getting tot he two front lower bolts was easier from bellow. I jacked up the driver side of the car, and reached up just to the left of the downpipes and I could see and start the left most bolt, and see, then feel to start the center bolt. I needed a 4mm allen wrench to tighten the new socket head bolts. With he three lower bolts in stretch the blanket up and over, making sure to get the flap in place to protect he turbo oil line.

There is a tab on the right side of the O2 sensor wire that you push in to disconnect the wire.. I also unscrewed the sensor and waited until I had the blanket on to reinstall it.

I have a 22mm combination wrench I used to remove the O2 sensor, a present isn't going to hurt anything, it isn't very tight. An O2 socket has a slot to run the wire up the side. I had to buy one for a VW Eurovan I had.

Hi, how are you all doing with your Turbo Blankets?
A couple of questions:
1. Do we have to take off the heat shield? 2. Can't we get some turbo blanket fabric and wrap the whole thing?
Thanks
