I'm looking at a turbo upgrade, and either I can pay $1600+ for what I want or I can have it built. I found a brand new R56 turbo for about $500, and then I'm thinking I can send it too gpops and have them rebuild with bigger turbines and a k04 compressor side for around $550-$700. It will take some time and patience but I can have a turbo made specifically made to what I want. But my whole idea rests on whether our turbo is the same as an R56 (I guess they don't have to be the exact same since I'm changing out internals, but they need to be interchangeable). Also does anyone have experience with having a turbo "built" through a company like gpops?

I did come across that one while I was searching for turbo's. I still am liking the idea of buying a brand new turbo and having it upgraded for around 1100 total. Don't know why it seems to be cheaper to buy a turbo and have the internals changed out, but it is.

What I did

I ended up going through JM Turbocoopers and getting their E45R (the R means refurbished). With all my mods I was putting down 254.9 horsepower to the wheels. It was lots of fun and very dependable. I have since traded in my countryman for an F56 hardtop and am starting all over again, but with a better platform since the F56 comes with the BMW 2.0l instead of the 1.6l in the R56-R61 models. My research is showing that with just a tune I'll be up close to where I ended up in my countryman. Good luck all, and have fun.

All n18 series Minis use the same turbocharger P/N, the n14 has a different p/n, but i think its just an older turbo. geometry wise i believe its the same
