Drivetrain Exhaust Manifold install tips?
Exhaust Manifold install tips?
Hello anyone that can help. I will be installing the WMW exhaust Mani on my R60S this weekend. Tough to find much about the R60 mani install. Here are some question I had:
1.Should I remove the top black painted metal brace (connects to the suspension towers, radiator, headlight bracket, fill line, etc.) first? Seems that would afford more room to work.
2. From what I understand, pull the turbo and mani out together. Correct?
3. It appears the oil/coolant lines need to be removed first? Yes as confirmed by Way.
4. If the lines are to be removed, should I get new seals and/or o-rings for the lines? Its a 2014 w/ 10k on it.
5. Does anyone have torque specs on the manifold studs?
Anything else I should be aware of?
I have some limited install tips that relate to the R56. I figure that mostly applies to the R60
Thanks!!
Chris

That black brace you're talking about I'm guessing is what all the stuff in the front of the car (radiator, condensor, bumpet, etc) is all attached to. You're going to have an awful hard time removing it. I'm sure the countryman has a "service mode" like the R56 does. I would figure out how to do that to give yourself more space. If you're already removing the turbo oil feed/return lines it might be a good time to replace them with aftermarket ones that aren't prone to failure.

You can see that brace is kind of connected to a bunch of stuff. I'm not sure removing it would gain you much and I think it would be difficult.
Unfortunately (or fortunately I guess) I haven't had to look into aftermarket oil lines for my car so I haven't really done the necessary research. I see Way Motor Works sells a set of aftermarket lines and I tend to trust what Way sells so I'd probably go that route. You can see that brace is kind of connected to a bunch of stuff. That really doesn't look bad to remove the brace (3). Just looking at it now and I would pick up about 1.5". Make working in that area a little more manageable. I'm going to give it a whirl. That axon is really helpful. Thank you.
