For those of you who trimmed the cover after installing the heat shield, did you trim it along the angled line or a little lower? Thanks in advance for feedback.

I did the air intake today after work. Pretty straight forward except I dropped one of the allen head screws and never found it.

What a surprise when I went for the test drive. Driving down my street which is super narrow and twisty I heard nothing. Then I pulled onto a slightly higher speed area and I heard it! I never expected the difference in sound so I actually pulled over and popped the hood to make sure everything was still hooked up. It's like the car is breathing now. I'm digging it, but the other half may not be so crazy about this mod...

I cut it just short of that angle. Basically tried to shave it just short of the heat shield; it took a few attempts to get it right.

would there be a difference in performance and sound compared to vip and nm? i would really like to buy either of those too this week or next, would hate to spend the cash then be left with a less superior product.

If it's anything like the R56, the DoS will be louder because you'll have to cut the firewall and get you a small power increase (vs none with VIP/NM) since it's an actual CAI.

How's small is "small"? I'm being told to expect ~15 HP gain if I do the VIP full exhaust and intake.

If anyone lurking on this thread is local to San Francisco, CA and wants to help us develop the new CAI for the Countryman S, drop me a PM or email.

We have lots of interested folks outside of SF, but I need someone local due to the ridiculous amount of fitment testing that's required on products like this.

Best,

-Clint

Thanks for the offer, but we really need someone local. Having someone close greatly shortens development time.

Do you really need to post your want-ad in every thread?

Incidentally, what do you plan to offer above and beyond what VIP and NM make?

Only the one and only countryman TRUE "COLD" air intake. Thanks Clint for exercising posting power💪 The more hooks in the water, the more likely you'll get a bite.

is it cold or is it "cold"? big difference.

I checked the site. does the filter draw air from the stock intake tube at the grille as well as somewhere behind the firewall?

The countryman intake will probably not be the same as the others on their website. We will see once its developed.

From what I've seen, their other versions pull from behind the firewall. I haven't heard whether the CM version will be different or not.

The US model countryman has more sensors that attach to the intake. So any non-US model will have to modified. I think it's just one additional sensor.

has anyone simply 'swiss-cheesed' the lower section of the factory air-box?
basically drill a bunch of 3/4 or 1" holes in the bottom of the air box to get more air flow?
The multiple holes tend to add sound/volume and by keeping the factory box, you retain the option of a oe paper filter or K&N filter all while keeping is visually stock.
Another benefit is that the intake would draw air from the bottom of the box (or whatever direction you deem the coolest air is coming from).

I used to do that on my MK1 Rabbit & 16v GTI because the old CIS systems could not be converted to a cone style. Drilled the front, & fender side. I noticed it then, those cars were so easy to mod for power it was ridic.. but they needed it too.
