New owner-warranty question

I just got my MINI Cooper Roadster(used) about 11 days ago. Enjoying every second of it and am glad to be a part of this forum. I still have 3 years left on the manufacture bumper to bumper warranty. Then I have two years of the mini next certified warranty. So warranty coverage until 2019. I bought the XXL wrap for 6 years which covers me until 2019. Do I really need it since I have The original and the certified warranties? The XXL was $795. the finance sales manager said the original warranty and the certified warranty don't cover lots of things and the XXL would fill in so to speak, particularly during the certified years.

Thanks for this forum and any info,
Mimi

I think the only way to figure it out will be to read the fine print of all the warranties to figure out what is covered and what isn't covered.

I was going to post that it would seem unusual for someone from MINI to state the certified warranty had a bunch of holes - not very confidence inspiring - but I guess if it means making another $795 on another product, it may be worth it.

I'm already covered under cpo until 2019, so XXL just seems like a redundant policy. Btw the finance sales guy did say that if I didn't buy it I must have a lot of confidence in BMW/mini cars because BMW/mini doesn't or they wouldn't offer it !!!!! No kidding he said that!

Sorry, I consider any kind of an extended warranty the same as snake oil. If there is a faulty part or a faulty installation it should show itself within the base factory warranty. Maintain your car properly and don't 'drive it like you stole it' and odds will greatly be in your favor. I've been buying cars since 1952 along with many other mechanical devices and have never fallen for any extended warranty. Not once have I ever regretted that decision.

Think of it like gambling in Las Vegas. Sure, there are the occasional winners but the house always wins.

Very poor MA if he was knocking the MINI warranty simply to get you to spend extra $$$ for an XXL policy. If you actually read the XXL policy, I guarantee it has many exclusions for various reasons, so I guess you'll need to spend many more $$$ for an XXXL policy that can wrap around the regular warranty, CPO, extended warranty, etc.

I did buy an extended warranty once (on a Honda), specifically because it stated in writing that if I didn't use the extended warranty before the end of the extended period, it was fully refundable. I didn't, and it was. You can certainly spend your $ any way you want for peace of mind, but I agree with the prior poster that most are snake oil and between deductibles and other exclusions, the house always wins in the end.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who gave me their thoughts on extended warranties. I decided to cancel it and did so yesterday. I expected a really hard sell to get me to try to keep it but the original selling finance guy wasn't there. The one who cancelled it with me couldn't have been nicer. He did tell me the original selling finance guy was new to MINI. I suspect he had his experience at an automall, at least that's how he came across to me looking back. Maybe he will soften with time. Thank you all again..

Good decision. I'd suggest you could take the $ you got refunded from the policy and place it in a separate savings account. If for some reason you have a costly post-warranty repair, you'll have some $ to help pay for it. If you don't use it, it will help provide the down payment for your next car!
