By the way we just came back from a 2,218 miles road trip and managed to drive about 86% of the time top down, so it's not too bad considering the amount of rain the North East has had. I feel we got lucky overall.
Plus we've passed the 21,500 miles mark which makes for not a tone of miles for a good amount of top down
Sorry guys, only 92.46 as of last night. But I've got a side that doesn't appreciate having the top down. Actually, I've logged over 50 hours this season since April.
Not bad this winter. Since the beginning of 2016 we're at 51%. I don't even know how we managed such a good average
The worse we had was in the beginning of February with 12% top down (I record it between every gas fill). It was preceded by 56% and followed by 58%. I guess it was a relatively a worm winter this year.
Our 2015 average was 64% top down, while our life time average since we own the car is about 61% top down.
I think "Mild and Warm" conditions are the better part of the convertible top down Roadster experience. Went out for a little ride yesterday afternoon (Monday 23 May) top down in sunshine and 75 degree air. Extremely nice. Cooled to 61 degrees by the time we got back at 8 pm as the sun was setting.
Didn't look at the open reading. I just enjoy the heck out of the time I get to drive in the open Mini. Top goes down at every opportunity!
I need to put my top down more since its warmer, once i get all the dirt off of it.
Ntttt . . . excuses excuses . . .
Dirts goes in and comes out just the same
It's not a true tight fit in there. My wife even found my sun glasses that I had forgotten on the top of the car and got sucked in. lol. I wouldn't recommend to try on purpose though...

That's the spirit!
With a warm jacket, heat seat on, and windows up, I do enjoy a nice winter sunny day drive top down.
Top down every time the roadster goes out if possible... but unlike Spiney, ours takes snow days off. Not sure if that is going to impact that all important top up/ down ratio. We've had to use the top when caught in rain or we take it for exercise in temperatures down in the lower teens or colder. One maintenance drive last Winter, before a snow/wet period that was forecast to arrive later that night, we took it out for a ride in below zero Fahrenheit weather. The top was up that ride.
The Winter car (SWA or Sacrificial Winter Anode) is ready, except waiting for new snow tires to arrive, so they can be mounted. The old snows are now just about as good as most all season tires that the majority chose to chance their Winter driving here in southern Maine. A lot of slide offs and and accidents are the result after every little snow or ice event. Litigation, higher insurance costs and the salting/chemical slurry overuse on our roads is the result.
But, right now the sun is out, the wind has dropped off and the temperature has warmed to 41 degrees. Time to go do some weekend errands in the Roadster... top down of course!
I don't have TG's fancy chart but here is my current and final numbers as I have sadly decided to sell the roadster. Sadly saying goodbye...
Top down hours: 940 (oh so close to 1000 )
Total miles: 48,091
Average MPH: 36.5
Total hours driven: 1318
Percent top down: 71%
However, I purchased the car with 10,008 miles and 91 hours on the openometer. So recalculating just with the hours/mileage I put on the car:
Top down: 849
Mileage: 38,083
Hours driven: 1043
Personal top down percentage: 81%
I do have the SoCal advantage where the top can be down almost all the time. In fact the only time the top was up was when it was raining (so never..) or the temperature dropped below 50˚F.
Well, it's been nearly two years since my last TDD post. I thought I would mention my latest states in an attempt to resurrect this thread.
Lots of TDD last summer. I only remember a hand full of times I drove with the top up due to rain. I've already had the top down over the last several days. We've had a bit of a heatwave here in Chicago with temperatures in the mid to upper 60's.
THE LATEST STATS:
35,163 miles
544.44 hours top down
578.98 hours top up
Top down driving average is 48.0%
Past the 1000 top down hours mark driving down to Tennessee to see the total Eclipse this past August.
We had an awesome time driving through the Blue Ridge parkway, and over the Smokeys...
We had a fantastic meal in Ashville, and found a last minute Hotel in the weirdest town I've ever been on this side of the States: Pigeon Forge. We ended-up seeing the eclipse at Fort Loudoun peninsula by the water. We had to wait a bit with a long line of cars to get in the park. Thankfully we got there early enough.
On the way back we add the greatest lunch at the Mountaineer Restaurant & Fireside Cottages on Soco road between Ashville and the Smokeys.
We drove the entire time top down. Sadly I didn't spend much time taking shots of the MINI so the few I have all have the top up because we took habit to always put the top up where ever we stop
