Roadster vs. Convertible- help!

I need to replace my convertible this week.

The roadster seems real nice, since I don't need a back seat.

I am wondering if anyone has owned both?

I have read that the roadster is very noisy with the top up. I live in the northeast so the top will be up a lot, but when the weather is the slightest bit nice...

I will test drive them tomorrow (and maybe buy tomorrow), but I really would like the hear from someone who knows the roadster (and hopefully the convertible) well.

Thanks,

dumb S

I have a Roadster and have ridden in a Mini convertible. I think that the roadster isn't as noisy as the convertible with the top up.

I recently purchased a 2012 MCS convertible believing I needed the extra interior space. The road noise is minimal with the top up and actually an improvement over my 09 mustang.
As I understand it, the 2012 roadster does not have a top liner (more road noise) or a power top. The good news I believe is the 2013 roadster includes both of those features.

I owned a 2011 MC Convertable which I purchased in 2010, I loved it and I did notice the noise at times when driving on the highway (Turnpike) but really did get used to it. I just traded in my 2011 convertable for a 2013 Roadster so here is my opinion. I really have not noticed any road noise unless I am on the highway riding next to a bus or truck. I am on th phone alot with work and do drive with the top up more than I would like to. The roadster ride is a little smoother than my Conv. (They tell me because it is a lighter car) I am loving the trunk room and even storge I get behind the seats. (Golf Clubs no problem) The Bluetooth was unusable in my Conv, In the roadster with Mini-Connect it is the best. I would highly recommnd the roadster over the Convertable. Please feel free to ask me any other questions. Good Luck...

I've owned both, and I can tell you the convertible was noisier inside the cabin than the Roadster. As others have said, having the trunk is so much easier to live with. The Roadster also handles better due to the stiffer platform. Then there's the looks... Good luck with your choice

These are great answers. It really is pushing me towards the roadster.

I need to purchase in the next few days, so I am "stuck" with dealer stock. They only have the non-S, which I hope will be sufficient. I will test drive later today.

I wish they had gotten park distance assist on them. It was very helpful on my convertible.

I'll let you know.

Thanks,

dumb S

Ask for a dealer trade, tell them you only want an "S" model. They can check other dealers and trade cars. Pretty common and easy to do. Get what you want...it's your dollar.

Where are you located? My dealer (Palm Harbor, FL) has a used 2012 S in black and 3 new S units in stock, a red, a white and a black.

I took a good long test drive in a convertible as well as in a coupe (the roadster's brother) and there was a definite difference in handling as well as looks, trunk space as mentioned and the angled windshield. Enough of a difference that I was willing to wait 4 months to get my roadster.

Have never owned the MINI convertible but have had my roadster since April.12k miles later I have yet to be bothered by wind noise with top up.

It's my daily commuter and spend most time on LIE no problem next to big trucks.

Yah what he said...
I was in love with my 2006 convertible and was a bit worried about replacing it with the roadster ... Those worries were put to rest very quickly

i have owned both. and i love my roadster. i do miss the space as there is no back seat to take anyone in anymore or put more stuff....but the car handles better.. the lower angled windshield is great... i love it more overall than the Mini Cooper cabriolet.
