Gas Cap mod

Anybody know if there is a reason why the Roadster doesnt come with the flip top gas cap?
http://www.waymotorworks.com/carbon-...5-r56-r57.html

I'd love to put this on the car... I'm thinking you'd need the inner surround and mount... hmmm

Thanks for the info!

Same reason it's not on the cabrio I'd guess, I don't think it can be retro-fitted but I hope I'm wrong!

I'd be very interested in this too....most expensive part would probably getting the surround painted to body color :-( Makes me feel like I'm driving a "justacooper" ;-)

I found this for the Cabrio (the first gen anyway). https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...cs-cabrio.html

We don't have rear quarter windows, and the hood mechanism is probably not interfering either (see this pic):

I can't see why this wouldn't work...

Yup that's what I understood about the cabrio too spiney..

From MotoringFile:"Gabriel Bridger:

The coupe and the upcoming roadster are based on the convertible and thus there's not enough depth for the chrome gas cap enclosure."

Actually looking at that Roadster photo you can see the gap between the cap and wheel arch is tiny

yeah There isnt much clearance.. but when I replaced the piece on my older mini ( i know its much different...) The clearance need was depth over expansion. the surround tapered inward... I bet this could be done... Hmmmmm

Here's an R56 from another thread (on gas caps...)

There doesn't seem to be that much more clearance there either....

Also the hole in the sheet metal is smaller on the Cabrio than the hatch. I was going to retrofit the S cap on my R52, (part of a larger project.)

Anything IS possible, it is a matter of $$$ and how far you are willing to cut up your car. The one thing I will do if I get my Roadster is shave that terrible radio antenna as well as the Satellite radio receiver!

Ya, that's MY Mini!

Ya, there is LOTS of room in the R56 Coopers to do this Mod, but from what the parts department at MINI was telling me (and what Gabe from MotoringFile confirmed) there is not enough room on the convertibles to do this Mod!

I lucked out and when called my local dealer for the part, they had a Chili Red laying around EXTRA because it was painted for a client that had a convertible and only after painting it realized it didn't fit!
