I Don't know what is going on with the tracking. The marinetraffic.com site appears to be the best of the two. Sailwx.info had the early morning position which may have been from enhanced propagation in the early morning hours over the water. After the reports ended at 11:33 UTC the guys at work they were telling me the ship sank! Thanks guys. The system both use is based on VHF radio. MarineTraffic started to show it at the mouth of the bay around 5:30 EDT. Anyway the trip is nearing an end. Anyway by morning the ship will be at the dock. With any luck there is a truck waiting to pick them up. Not sure if mine will make Cincinnati by the weekend but at least by early next week I should have it.
Great news guys! So happy to read the kids are making the journey across the pond
It is great news, after sitting at the port for eleven days. This morning shows me going from "booked" to "loaded" on the ship. Looks like this is finally happening

So go back to the web site. Click on the red number and it will bring up another screen that shows the spec of the ship. In the lower left hand corner is a "MAP/ LIST" If you click on the list is will show the complete schedule of the voyage..

My ship (TAIKO) docked in Baltimore sometime before dawn this morning. The ship has left port mid day so my Mini is now in the USA. My MA is out of the office on Wednesday but by Thursday she may have information if it is on a truck heading this way. My guess is I will have it a week from today.
Finally got my VIN to show on the shipping site last night. Looks like the cruise is on the "TOMAR". For others trying to gauge their own car; my production completed 4/4. OL and AskMINI showed it arrived at the port on the 6th. Car was loaded on the 13th. I would figure Easter added a little time. Im being forcasted to arrive in So CA on 5/3. It will be exactly 6 weeks from order date if on time.
Cheers.
Ahoy, shipmate. Just checked, and looks like Tomar is about halfway across the Atlantic. I'm going to go crazy waiting for my Roadster to show up.
The tracking system on both the marinetraffic and sailWX.info site are the same. They use VHF radio to send the GPS data to ground based receivers along the coast. Once the ship is beyond the radio horizon you won't get any tracking data until it gets to the other side. I had better luck with the MarineTraffic website. I set the map to the destination area then watched for the ship to show up. It took a week but one morning I spotted the ship still well out to sea. Being VHF there is some early morning propagation enhancement that allowed one of the coastal receivers to pick them up over 100 miles out. Later that morning the ship disappeared as the propagation vanished before showing up again late afternoon closer to shore.
My Mini is now on a truck somewhere between Baltimore and Cincinnati.
The tracking system must have changed as I was able to pinpoint my previous four MINI's ship every day - the printouts are in their "baby book"-

I thought SailWX.info used a satellite based communication system but looking at the technical specs it appears they are using AIS the same as marinetraffic.com
With any luck, Tomar will be showing up on the tracker again soon. Looks like it's heading through the Panama Canal on 4/24 at 6pm, and is expected at Port Hueneme on 5/2.

Still nothing yet. I figured the canal is surrounded by land and with it being less than 36 hours from going through, the elusive TOMAR would reappear.

Unfortunately for us, it turns out that Tomar is in fact a submarine auto-transporter, and will only appear on radar once it resurfaces off the coast of California.
