R59 Wheel gap and ride height
Wheel gap and ride height
Our local dealer has their demo Roadster in, and while we wait for ours I decided to drop by and have a look, since we hadn't seen one since the traveling Roadster, and had never seen one w/o the JCW Aero kit in person.
One of the things I've been debating is the change in wheel gap and ride height as part of a potential suspension upgrade. I'd been assuming that the "usual" lowering of about 1" (or more) that most aftermarket springs provide would be a good thing. After looking at the Roadster in person I'm not sure though.
These pics show the gap as being even all the way around, which looks ok to me. Maybe my aesthetic sense is messed up?

Hey Don,
What size tire on that Demo, and what size is yours coming in with? It doesn't look too bad, however, picture it an inch lower, or wheels/tire combo that fills out the wheel well...big visual difference

Yeah... meant to see what size those wheels were and then got caught up in comparing the look with and without the JCW aero kit. Oops.
Mine's got 17" wheels.
But that's my problem - when I do try and picture it an inch lower I just think that now the gap is uneven (less gap at top, bigger gap front and back compared to the molding around the wheel well).
Now, a larger tire would be fine, as the gap would stay even, but just be reduced. But I don't think the tire size varies much at all between the wheel sizes.
I'll be the first to admit I don't have an artist's eye - I'm much more of a have-to-see-it type, so to be sure I need to see it. Thought about asking the largest people there to sit in the car for me...
