3D Design Rear Spoiler

Hello all,

I recently installed the 3D Design rear spoiler on my Roadster, and thought a few Coupe owners may be interested in this mod.
Here's a look...

It comes in as full carbon...

I had IND shoot it black, and leaving the upswept part of the carbon fiber revealed...

If there was a bow emoticon then I would have put it.

But I give you mad props to go with this since this is 1 in 10000000 that would ever have this in the states! Hellz yes it looks good too!

Steven, great mod!

Test driving the Roadster and watching this forum sure tempted me to pull the trigger on an R59; after deciding it was not a practical choice for me I put a deposit on an R58. But I still drool over these Roadsters!

That's excellent!! I tried the link in your other thread but couldn't drill down to this spoiler. Is it under the 3D section or IND? This spoiler, in my opinion, is how the OEM shoulda been.

You'll be drooling over your Coupe soon enough I hope What color combo did you choose for the R58?

Hey Andrew, good hearing from you...thanks Agree with you completely...the designers should have built it this way. Try this link to 3D Design Japan. However, looking at it now, it says Roadster only. Are the rear spoilers different between the R58/R59? I didn't think they were.

http://www.3ddesign.jp/english/produ...INI_R55_56.htm

You could also call IND, ask for Andrew, and have him inquire directly from Japan.

Perfect thanks man!! As for the spoilers differing between the R58-R59 I'm 99% certain they're the same (at least the actual wing itself but I'll ask my buddy who works at the dealership to find out for sure. Since it doesn't look like this 3D design spoiler requires any more than swapping the actual spoiler it should be an exact fit between both models.

What a great look!

Let me know what you find out. It literally bolts right up using the factory bushings/washers, so I would think it would be a direct swap.

Hi Dan, best bet would be to contact Andrew at IND Distribution. I don't want to post quotes, because I didn't pay full retail on it. I believe list on it is $1400

Thanks again Steven. After getting a good look at the page it is interesting that they specify R59 only while both the splitter and rear diffusers are for both 58/59. Even more interesting that they chose to only cover the S model MINI's instead of JCW's also. That's great for the "S" folks since they usually get left in the cold on aero parts. Obviously the spoiler is the same on the S/JCW.

I'll give Andrew a call as well as swing by the dealership tomorrow and compare the Roadster spoiler with mine. I'll be really surprised if they're different as MINI/BMW hate non interchangeable parts but I could be wrong and I'm quite sure 3D design knows exactly what they're talking about. If so that's a bummer......Here's praying for an oversight on their part.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the wing itself is different between the Coupe and Roadster. We have several of both in our local club, and the Roadster wing seemed wider (front to rear) than the Coupes(?). Maybe just an optical illusion?

I'd imagine the motor unit is the same (why have different ones), with just the wing itself different due to the different shape of the rear upper decks between the tow models. Just a guess...

The more I looked at Stevens pics the more I'm feeling the same. Front to back does appear wider. As much as MINI made both the Coupe and Roadster parts compatible with the hatchback I'm surprised they'd alter the spoiler between the two but there are probably vet valid reasons for it. My guess is the Coupes roof spoiler plays into any size difference.

I'm at the dealer now for an oil change, I'm going to see if I can get a definitive answer on the size/difference between Coupe and Roadster.

Just got confirmation the two spoilers are very different in size. In fact the entire boot area is a different shape between R58 and R59. The Roadster has a larger spoiler.

EDIT: just saw your post Steven. Lol, I had just texted my buddy at the dealership.

Hi all, I'm at the dealer now, and had the parts dept. run the numbers on the Coupe and Roadster. Not good news...Coupe is a different rear spoiler. Dealership was really surprised as well, thinking there was no way Mini would use two different spoilers, apparently the shape of the rear deck is very different on the Coupe. My apologies for starting the thread, assuming the parts were interchangeable.

On a different note, I did look at this spoiler as well, which will fit the Coupe...

Thanks Steven! I do like the Revozport spoiler but I don't believe it has quite the exposed lip that yours does but still much more than factory. They also sell one much like the larger JCW wing that mounts atop the standard spoiler and raises in unison with it. Theres a video on youtube i believe.

After actually looking at my Coupes hind end I can't believe I thought it was the same as the Roadster. They really are quite a bit different with the way the rear glass slopes down making the Coupe spoiler take up nearly all of the real estate available back there.

The prices don't seem that stupid crazy when compared to what Mini wants for their JCW spoiler.

BlueToy, that looks great. 3D Design makes some nice stuff. I have a 3D Design CF rear diffuser on my 2009 R56.
