I didn't see that coming (at least until the Coupe changes to the 3rd-generation platform).

James, that give you a little while before you have to trade your current coupe in..

Technically this can be done to a current JCW, minus the proprietary rims and a few other things. There has to be a way to get 220 hp out of the current car but maps are something I haven't looked into and I don't think there is anything out for 2012 yet. Resale value of course, could be a different matter.

Very interesting. Did you notice that the front brake calipers look to be the same 6 piston setup as on the BMW 135i.

There's no way the Coupe GP will look better than mine, so I'm good.

Not sure this will come through to production...it would just water down the allure and of buying a GP.

Why so? The R56 GP will be a limited run and any R58 version will be released well after those have left the lots. I know hatchback fans are aghast but in my opinion the only new GP should have been Coupe based from the start.

There definitely is....we just have to wait for the tune to be done thru the OBD

or

You can bench tune the car right now.

I think having a GP edition prior to the LCI is wrong, especially when you look at the history of the GP models (2006 & 2013) both as a send-off special edition.

Even Porsche is doing the same thing with the GT3, having a limited edition, final production special version. They don't release a limited special in the 2nd year of production.

Maybe the Coupe will be an edition car like the Bayswater, Camden, etc.....

Supposedly the GP will become another sub-brand beyond the special edition, I guess with the third generation models. I agree, the GP Coupe should come out during the last year of this generation Coupe's life, not in the middle.

I understand why MINI wants to make a Hardtop GP, but why buy a sporty two-seat MINI in that form when the sportier Coupe GP is coming?

I agree that there is direct competition with the Coupe and the hardtop GP versions being available. Only time will tell if this is actual fact, or just a rumour.
