R58 Will a mini be good for me?
Will a mini be good for me?
I am in the process of returning my lemon Chevy cruze and this coupe caught my eye for my next car. My question is do you guys think this will be a good dd for me? I drive 95 miles a day on back country roads so it turns out to be approx 23,000 miles a year. I need my cars to go at least 200,000 miles. The speed of the S makes me drool but I'm thinking the non turbo may be more trouble free in the long run. Send me some opinions please!
As long as you don't need a ton of cargo room (or back seats), the Coupe is a great little commuter. Quick, nimble, and easy to park, plus great on gas.
Be sure to go for a test drive & experience the rear visibility, though. Some folks have been greatly disappointed by it. For most of us on this forum, we've learned to adjust our mirrors properly & live with it. That's the only semi-hidden possible drawback I can see for anyone considering the Coupé.
And yes, if you are looking for 200k miles with minimal repair and wear & tear parts replacement, I would consider the non-turbo. Not that you can't get the turbo, but any time you add more moving parts, you add more potential for failures. It's just a simple fact.
On the other hand, I'm friendly with the lead mechanic at one of my local dealerships. Before taking delivery of my MCS Coupé, I asked him if the posts I saw about timing chain tensioners & overheating turbos, etc. were a warning to stay away. He assured me that I'd be fine, because he knows I don't follow the factory maintenance schedule (~15k oil changes). He says he hasn't seen a single major problem with any R56+ engine if it got regular oil changes at 4-5k intervals.
