R58 About Bloody Time...
Am I safe in assuming that these will fit our coupes?
Edit: Nevermind.

They still don't offer black grill surrounds.

Just called Global Mini here in Atlanta. The parts are in the system, but no prices and an approximate April delivery date.

I think it's often overzealously done. It looks right on some vehicles, horrid on others. But personally I hate the amount of chrome all over this vehicle. I'm planning to get my headlight/taillight rings painted body-color and will black out the trim around the grille. All the rest of the chrome is fine, but ugh, I can totally empathize with people who want to do "something" about the light rings. They're obnoxious.
When I originally placed my order for the Coupe I added the Chrome hood scoop and chrome driving lights thinking they would look good with the massive amounts of chrome trim on the car then I realized I was driving a 21 century European sports car not a 1950's Hotrod so I cancelled that order. Got the Eclipse grey JCW instead.
Chrome is fine but they really go overboard on this car. My opinion of course.

I must be one of the few who absolutely loves all the chrome on my Coupe. The chrome line exterior on a white silver and black roof Coupe just classes everything up, in my opinion.
Then again, to each their own! Motor On!

It was pretty big after the R56 came out, what with the now famous Joey Mod for the headlights (available as a factory option). I like it to the "checkered flag" craze that followed the R53 release. The carbon fiber bits were part of this. I think some of it looks good on some cars but it can be overdone. I'm more of a chrome guy myself. Something else will take its place, maybe when the F56 comes out. I'm waiting for that.
I'm all about balance. A few chrome accents look nice and blacking out a few pieces does too. I also tend to prefer chrome on the front of a car and not the rear. Not sure why...
Like BlueToy said, it's all personal preference. Do what you think looks good and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

Very true! I saw a hatchback covered in tiedyed vinyl the other day. No way in hell I'd ever do that but it was a MINI so it somehow fit and I say go for it!
As for blacked out trim fading away I just do not see it ever happening. It's been going on for years outside of the MINI community and like chrome, I think it's here to stay.

On my Clubman, I liked the chrome. I thought it provided a nice contrast with the dark silver paint and the lighter grey of the alloy wheels.
However, on my Coupe, the eclipse grey, black top, and black wheels make the chrome look a little out of place. I'm going to try the black trim and see what I think. If it doesn't look right, I can always put the original chrome back on or have one of the sets painted a matching body colour.
