Hi -

Does anyone know if the regular Mini Cooper outdoor car covers will fit the Mini Coupe? If not, has anyone found a good alternative or an online shop that supplies these?

I've done a bit of Google research, and have found a lot of dead-end leads.

I presume they'd fit, just not properly. With the Coupe being not as tall and having the hatch-bump gone, it would probably drape a bit.

In general, there's almost nothing available that is spec'ed for the Coupe, even on the OEM level. It hasn't even been on the market for a full 3 months yet and it's a niche MINI (never mind that MINI is a niche brand to begin with). I don't think any of us should be surprised to not see very much Coupe-specific aftermarket stuff around... only Coupe-compatible types of products.

Honestly I wonder if they'll even bother making an OEM car cover for the Coupe. The cost of design and production vs. demand might be too ridiculous. But you can always wait and see.

 

You might want to call Griots garage or autoanything, etc. The cover manufacturers will definately make one for you. I got one for my M6 cab a few years ago and they had to make it, but only for about 200.00. It was a really nice indoor/outdoor cover that I used to protect the roof from my cats!

It would have been nice if they would have offered one, especially given the investment of this kind of car. Looks like I might need to custom order, after all. Such as it is.

So... After doing a bit more research, I found a Coupé car cover on the Mini.co.uk site.

I've put in an inquiry to my MA to find out if they have these at the Orlando dealer (doubtful), and if not, how I might go about ordering directly from the UK. (With no garage, I'm keen to get one sooner rather than later.)

I'll report back what I learn. Stay tuned.

But... My MA emailed me back and said he'd talk to, and have his Asst. Parts Manager get in touch with me. I'm pretty tenacious, so if I don't get results that way, I'll definitely be trying for more alternatives.

Ok - So this story has evolved into a "move along, move along, nothing to see here" theme. Thought I would update in case anyone was interested.

I called the UK equivalent of the MiniUSA number. They told me that I would need to ask a local UK dealer if I could order one from them - and put me through to the dealer. I spoke with their Parts Manager who said that he had one, but that BMW's policy is that parts may not be shipped outside Europe. (This is sort of, but not really an enigma to me, since the cars that are made up of parts are being shipped from Europe. I guess that's fuzzy logic though. )

The UK Parts Manager said he'd be happy to ship the Coupé cover to anyone I might know in the UK who could purchase it, then ship it to me since it would be out of their hands by then. He did take my email address and said he'd look into it more. I don't really expect to hear back.

My MA said that their Parts Manager pretty much got the same info when he checked. They won't even send dealer-to-dealer. I don't think this whole thing is an unusual manufacturer policy though. But I'm tenacious.

Now I'm trying to work out some kind of purchase/payment/shipping arrangement with a friend of a friend who lives in one of the countries over there.

So... it looks like until BMW realizes there is a market for them here, or unless you have friends/friends of friends, it may be a wait to get one - if ever.

Let me take a couple of weeks to see how this other "friend of a friend" possibility shapes up to avoid duplicate efforts. I definitely want to get one before Moxie shows up - or at least not too long after.

Covercraft makes covers for the Countryman models, it can't be long before they have them for the Coupe. Send them an email and ask when they might have a pattern for the Coupe. Here's a link to their guide:

I emailed them late December, and the guy who responded didn't seem to even understand that there was a Coupé on the market. We went round and round via email, with me trying to explain and send images of the exact car I meant, and with him trying to convince me that the Cooper/Clubman covers were for the Coupé.

I got the feeling that he thought I was being clueless, and I certainly thought that he was being clueless.

I also called one of the other manufacturers (?), and the guy with whom I spoke also did not even seem to know that Coupés were on the market.
