My euro glovebox door doesn't have the strange lump that I've seen on the US cars. Any of you guys know what's in the lump, is it something that I'd want? Some kind of shin air bag?

I think the euro spec door looks quite a lot neater so there must be some benefit to the lump.

 

No idea. It isn't to terribly bad.

Does the EU ones have the power adapter on the inside of the box? Maybe it has to do with safety regulations in the US for passengers? No clue.

 

I was told by MA that the lump is indeed an airbag

Never saw what year your Mini is but you might look on the Interweb at www.autohausaz.com. There are glove box latches listed there and they appear to be reasonable.

 

I have the R58 and the glove box design and front floor matt extra material(filler) was for the US standards for a crash. Pushing the passenger back i little more.
