Question 2012 coupe - Ordering Rims and Tires

New to the forum and decided to ask the experts I plan on ordering my first mini(2012 coupe). Here's the question: Better to go with the standard rims and tires(non-runflat) when ordering (at no additional cost) or get the rims I want (17") with the runflat tires at the time of ordering(an additional $1,750). I like the 17" rims but not a fan of runflats. What would you do?

I assume you are getting a Coupe non-S. That said if you are getting different tires for a Coupe get the regular tires as you have a spare. If however, you are getting an S I think the only way they will sell the optional wheels is with run-flats. The S has no spare and MINI will not sell an S off the lot without run-flats. After you wear out the run-flats it is up to you what you put on. I went non run-flats on my 2005 after the originals wore out. Have had no problems and the nonRF are much quieter and smother.
Hope that helps.

Welcome tjtoads, the S Coupe will be my first MINI too. If you do a search about run flats there are a bunch of threads, so many as to be confusing lol. I'm staying with the 16 inch rims for pot hole resistance and I don't care enough about the pluses of 17s to pay for them.

I'll switch to regular tires, but if the ride and noise of the run flats don't bother me too much I'll wait for the originals to wear out. The current run flats are supposed to be a lot better than a few years ago. Still expensive though.

You can get a nice set of non-MINI 17" alloys and tires for $1750. I would order with stock setup and sell them when you get the car and buy a new set.

I have a set of BF Goodrich g-force super sport a/s, v rated (205/55/16) tires waiting for the coupe. It makes a difference. The run-flats will go back with my leased '09 MCS.

Junk the runflats, they suck. They're loud, dont grip, ride like they're aired up w/ concrete and are waaay too expensive. No upside I can see, get a spare.
