I got a yellow engine light so I took it to check the code. Code came back with 3 & 4 cylinder miss firing. I pulled those two plugs this morning. #3 looked like it had been dipped in oil. Oil was literally running off of it. #4 did not look bad but was not drinched in oil. I am going to clean the plug since no one carries plugs for it and move the 3&4 coil packs to 1&2 to see if the missing will follow the coils and try to get the oil out of cylinder 3. Can I reset the yellow check engine light and if so how? The car is just shy of 100,000 miles and is a base 2009. Here are a couple of pictures of the plugs.
I decided to swap 3&4 coils with 1&2 to see if the problem would follow the coils. I did get another code for #2 cylinder misfire but not #1. I did pull the plugs to see if #3 was still wet. All plugs were dry this time. I wonder if the fluid in cylinder 3 was just carbon and gas? But when I pulled #4 it was dry and those were the two throwing the original codes. Since I haven't figured out how to reset the check engine light I don't know if 3&4 are still misfiring.
These plugs have 33000 miles on them. There looks like a little carbon build up on plug one.
whoever scanned the code should be able to clear it. fix the problem first or it will just come back
It was scanned at Advance Auto so I don't know if they can/will. I was trying to isolate the problem to plugs or coils. I will replace both but just wanted to know which was the problem.
since the oil is covering the threads of the plug, the oil must be coming from the top hence the valve cover gasket.
a scanner is always a-must-have item. some times you cannot afford driving the car all the way to a shop for a scan to tell you something is wrong. you do not want to drive the car with a check engine light specially when the engine feels weak.
I ordered new plugs and coils from you and that fixed the miss. I will pull the plugs again after driving it a bit more to see if there is any more oil. I have to take the car in to get the top replaced so I will have the oil leaks checked. I got an extended warranty so I will have it fixed under warranty. Once I have these fixed I will be trading it. If that code reader would work on my Porsche I would buy it. Thanks for the help and link. Keep up the great service!
Welcome. It will read general codes for the OBD 2 reader section on ALL OBD2 makes.
I had to get a couple of filters for my Cayenne so I decided to buy a gasket as well. Super easy to install and thanks for the link. If anyone hasn't seen the head on a 09 base here it is. Top end on a 2009 base. 100,000 miles.
