Powering new phones in R57?

What wattage does the USB port in the console provide? Some newer phones (Moto X in this situation, but stuff like iPads in others) require more than the typical 500ma. How much does the console USB jack provide?

I think it is only 500ma. Which will charge an ipad very very slowly.

It used to be sufficient to charge the previous phone, a Droid 3 in it's vehicle dock. It won't charge a new Motorola X. Are there any pictures/schematics of the setup underneath this plug? Might it be possible to replace the power leads into it with something with support for more wattage? Assuming, of course, this isn't a plug-and-play fix.
