V1 Install - 1st Post

Picked up Scoot last Friday. Surprise present for the wife. Now have a lifetime get-out-of-jail card. My scenario: My wife really wants the V1 to be installed behind/below the rearview mirror, like I did in her other car. I know, it's subject to theft. That's beside the point right now.

I've read many have done it with their hardtop Minis. However, the hardtop overhead "compartment" with available wiring appears to be bigger than the cabrio. Has anyone tried to hard-wire their Valentine One behind their mirror? Is there enough room to place a V1 direct wire power adapter up above?

Thanks for all the great information. It's been very helpful.

From what I understand the V1 must be able to see out the rear window.

I hope to learn how to hardwire it to something in the overhead area of my '08 R56

Thanks for the reply, Twister. Sure, an unobstructed view would be ideal, but when riding on my motorcycle, with the V1 mounted directly in front of my chest, there was never an issue of not finding bogies from the rear. Before I pulled apart the upper console, I was just curious if someone would tell me there was no room.

Blue Ridge Parkway on June 18? Sounds very fun. Will have to investigate.

Thanks again for the reply. Tom

I'll be doing it shortly (I always HW in my V1), I think there is enough room for the V1 direct pwr wire.
Anyone already figure out which wire(s) up there are switched+12?
If not I'll poke around until I find one.

I've been thinking about this same install myself. On my R56, the V1 clip mounted nicely above the rear view mirror. It's headliner was flexible and there was plenty of room. The problem I see here is that our headliner now is hard plastic and the space between the headliner and mirror seems reduced.

Regarding wiring, on my R56 I ran the 4-wire cable down the drivers side a-pillar and under the dash. I hard wired the power/remote interface to the cigarette lighter. There is plenty of space there. It's probably safer to do that then mess around with the confined space in the headliner.
