Would the speedometer errors being reported also affect mileage? So, are we looking at something like 5-10% optimistic MPG readings?

30-31 calculated and obc. obc has been pretty accurate.

My mileage has been between 29-32mpg depending on more city or more highway. I'm defintely not easy on the throttle, I'm always on a mission to "get rid of this tire tread"! The mileage was determined by dividing trip odometer by gallons added each fill-up. Regarding the speedometer display; the OBDII knows the actual speed, thus the odometer is accurate.

I've only had my R56 a few weeks (just went over 900 miles), so I sure this will change but... I've also been getting about 30/31 mpg city. OBC has only been off by about 3/10ths per gallon thus far

I'm continuing to get about 33 mpg. I do about 75% highway/25% city. That's including plenty of "spirited" driving.

with this kind of gas mileage why worry about throttle position?

*happy dance*

My car's computer says I'm getting 35 mpg; but the actual mileage (miles driven divided by gallons of gas purchased) is working out to be 33. This is with 75% city driving.

But .. Now that I'm approaching 1200 miles, for some reason my car is becoming even more responsive, especially in sports mode. Being not a very disiciplined individual I find myself giving into temptation far too often. I think I'll have to dark tint my windows so people won't see me and say, "what's a supposedly mature adult like that fellow doing driving in the manner of of a teenage hotrodder?"

Why do I mention this? Because people who squirrel around (can't help it - this car demands it) don't get good gas mileage. My mileage can't possibly stay in the 30s unless I grow up and start driving in the manner of my contemporaries (most of them drive buicks).

Do you mean 3/10ths per tank or is there really a 30% error?

How would one know whether the OBC has the error, or:

1. The pump at the gas station isn't accurate.
2. The shut-off level at each fill-up is not exactly the same.
3. The gas goes through the pump cold (from underground storage) warms up in the MINI and expands in volume?

OT: LOL! I told my Wife, "If you ever see me looking at a Buick/Olds/Caddy with a wanton look in my eye, just shoot me, please."

31-41 worst and best

I've gotten a worst of 31 and best of 41 (on a trip). We don't have cruise control due to the MFSW screw up that Mini isn't apparently going to do anything about, but that's another post. With cruise I would think that a couple of more mpg would have been squeezed out. We have 4,300 miles on it now so we've been through a few tank fulls. I've calculated the mileage via the actual gas into the tank. The OBC appears to be about 1.5 to 2 mpg optomistic on our car.

I've very happy.

Mark

I wasn't very clear, but in my experience...
OBC = 31.6
Calculator = 31.3

I'll be able to get some highway mileage measurements tomorrow

I'm still trying to figure out how large the tank is. The book says one thing; the dealer, and some posters on other threads say another. What's the largest number of gallons you all have put into your tank?

I've done 11.9 in my MCS, and was nervous at that, but my dealer put 14 gallons into a Cooper recently. That's at supposedly trustworthy stations.

I've put 12.8 in my MCS, OBC still claimed 30-40 miles to go...
