Personally I love the cup holders much better in my R-56 than in my R-53. I have no problem putting a 20 oz bottle of water much less a 16 oz coke can (even though I don't drink any carbonated drinks other than redbull) Sure there a little hard to put in and pull out but would you rather that hot cup of coffee all over your new floor much less in your lap? The cup holders in the R-53 were utterly useless and my water bottles wouldn't fit at all. I'm satisified. Now if they could make the HiFi worth $550

the minis were not designed for holding big gulps.. in germany. their cars.. i been in bmws. they dont even have cup holders.. well. some do. most people dont want them anyway. over there, when people drive. they dont do anything else. just drive..no cell phones. no starbucks. no putting on make up. thats probably why they have an autobahn and we dont.. we go about driving completely different here in the us atleast. when we buy a car we need out 8 cup holders even if its only a 4 seater.. just my opinion anyway

Maybe the cup holder is made to fit European can of soda (330ml) which is a little smaller than American 12oz (355ml) can?

I was just going to suggest this as well. I figures we Americans complain about not fitting big drinks in our MINIs!!

The '07s hold a 12 oz soda. It's getting it to give it back that's the problem. Once those rubber wings wear a little, it will be easier.

It *is*, after all, called a cup-holder.

I thought you weren't supposed to drink and drive

The only thing I use a cupholder for is to hold my cell phone or spare change.

I see no problems here. I have yet to find a can that doesn't fit. Of coarse I only do 12 oz cans. But it is tight, and also in the way of my ipod and the toggle switches. So I am working to not drink in my car unless I am on a road trip.

Just be carefull not to do it when its very hot out. I had a can explode after one afternoon of 90 degree heat.

I have no problems with the cup holders. Didn't have any problems with my '02 cup holders either.

I've had no issues with mine at all. I use them constantly. Styro coffee cups, 12oz soda cans, bottled water. No issues.
