Extended Warrany -- Is it Worth It?

Another item the dealer tries to convince me to get when I pick up my MINI is an extended warranty. Upon checking with BMW, I realized that the extended warranties on MINI are not offered by BMW or MINI but through third-parties such as GE, etc. The preimium appears to be stiff $2200+. Have any of you pondered this? Your advice is appreciated.

No.

Search back a bit for "extended warranty". There was a big discussion on this a couple weeks back.

I wouldn't do it now, partly because a lot of them are worthless, and partly because you have until the factory warranty runs out to decide. Also, the price is highly negotiable. I'd wait and see how reliable your car is and then decide, based on exactly what the extended warranty covers, and more importantly, DOESN'T cover!

I believe that pricing on extended warranties is a negotiable item. Some warranty companies are excellent but find out how coverage applies. Most require prior approval before they will pay. Also does the warranty apply if you move out of state? Ask how any modifications are covered under the warranty? Is there some sort of deductable?
