Cold Start Engine Knock?

I noticed a few days ago that my MCS engine was making a knocking sound in the morning when I started, and it went away as it warmed up, a couple of minutes later. We're talking So. Calif. here, so it's not THAT cold. I took it in to MINI and they assured me that that's the sound in the new engines at cold startup, and that they started a few others this morning to confirm. I wouldn't have been worried if I had noticed the sound from day one, but it's already 3 weeks old.
Anyone else noticing this sound?
