My MA said my car should be at the dealership in Denver late this week or early next.

My MINI was on the Figaro and is going to Ralph Schomp MINI in Denver. I had not heard anything from my MA, but saw on the OL my car is scheduled for delivery TODAY. I contacted my MA who checked and said her info shows it is scheduled for delivery today at the dealership. You'd think the MA's would be a little more out front on this and would not wait until we inquire, but guess they really don't care until they have the car in house. Bet they'll be a little more anxious to get the owners in once they have a commission at stake.

No, I don't think this. I know my dealership has been very busy. It takes a lot of time to work with new customers, and about 2 hrs to turn over a new car to an owner. They care, they're just busy and I don't expect them to call me every week or so and give a step by step update. It's not that they don't care - they work with customers and try to give good service all day long. I just don't think there is a lot of time left over. The OL does help fill this gap. I have no problem with this - if I am anxious and call, they've always been helpful and patient. My MA called me right after my car was delivered - the only time he called, but that was OK by me.

I know how eager you are - it'll be soon!!! Hours!!!

OK. I am officially worried that my car was damaged in shipping. Why else would it still be at the VDC? did they lose the keys?
The owners lounge says Est Delivery 4/15/07
(delivered to port April 7 with everyone else on Figaro,
San Diego CA dealership.....)

Don't worry too much, mine was dropped off in LA on the 4th of April and only made it to the dealership on the 16th. I may get it tonight and that would make it almost two full weeks. It was probably just one of the last ones off the boat and took awhile to start the process.

Mcarlo52: thank you for the reply....i appreciate it. what did your OL say was the est delivery?

I really wonder what the percentage of repair work they do over there is. i think a thread with "number of days ot the VDC" would be good, no? i like the mini2 site with polls but i dont think that i hav seen that here....

mcarlo52 could be right. Mine was one of the last three that loaded on Figaro and therefore one of the very first that was loaded off. It arrived at the Dealer' in LA on 4/11. According to the following link "..if the car suffers damage in excess of 3% of it's value it has to be disclosed to the dealer."

After I noticed the sometimes huge delay in information on the OL, I started just calling ASK-MINI (866 275 6464) for information. Of course this was after I got a production #. Tracking the ship was the most fun, but not every ship can be tracked across the Atlantic (Maersk Wind was one of those). Followed it through the canal using the ship tracking website and the Canals webcams. Once at the VDC, all bets are off, it seems to have no ryme or reason, could be several days or several weeks.
I think you can ask the dealer or MA for a copy of the VDC report, that may help ease worry or provide leverage for negotiation.
Still waiting to hear from my MA to pick up mine.

My dealer called and said it's at the dealership, and I should be able to pick it up Saturday.

Steve, I called Ace Clearbra and was quoted 647.00 for 18" on the bonnet, the bumper and the mirrors. He said the headlights were and additional 89.00.
He did mention he would give the 10% green back discount also, but I would rather pay with a credit card incase there is a problem. The dealer is 649.00 for the same thing. I'm going to look at some at the dealer and see what kind of work they do.

Considering that Minis that came in on ships that arrived after Figaro have been delivered to customers, I am pretty certain that my car is being repaired to some extent at the VDC.

I think i heard someone say something about a "VDC Report." does every car have a report from the VDC, and if so, does it entail all that was done to it? I read that the VDC would have to report damage over 3% of the cost of the car to the dealer. That makes me assume that if it were less, nobody would ever know.
I guess 3% of my MSRP is only $882 and that doesnt get you very far in the repair shop....
I am getting frustrated thinking that it will be delivered, have several more miles on it than i think it should and that i will search for hours for some evidence of repair but not find anything because i am not an expert.

I too got a call from my MA at Schomp yesterday. She didn't think mine would be ready until early next week because she said they got several Beerer's in as well, and they and the MINI's are all received and processed by the same person. She said she would get an update and let me know if it might be ready on Saturday. I just sold my 2005 MINI this week, so perfect timing to be getting delivery. I don't know why you were given a higher quote on the clearbra than I got from Ace...maybe he's busier now and not as hungry for the work. One advantage of getting it done at Schomp is they should stand behind it and repair or replace if it becomes necessary. Ace supposedly offers a lifetime warranty, but imagine it could be more difficult getting replacement from them than the dealer. I'm going to do some further investigating with Ace, try to see some of his work and talk to a couple references. I believe Schomp quoted me $649 for 12" and an additional $50 for 18". Good luck with your new ride.........just 2 more days!!

Yes, I picked it up Saturday morning. What a great car! I'm not going to drive it much until I get the clear bra. Good luck with yours. Have you decided on your clear bra? I've heard good things about "The Bra Man"
I'm going to call him on Monday and get a price.

Chopperace, your MINI looks fantastic! Congratulations. With any luck I'll be able to pick up mine on Tuesday and will post pictures. On the bra, I think I'm going to go with Ace Clearbra, but not sure. I went over to Paragon Motors on Arapahoe and saw several installations he has done. Many were on luxury autos (Aston Martin, Ferrari, Corvette) and looked very good. He wasn't there when I stopped in, but the guys at Paragon spoke highly of him and said that he's redone a couple that didn't meet their needs with no problem. Do you know how "the Bra Man" prices compare to Schomp or to Ace? I too don't want to drive my car much until I get the bra installed. Let me know what you decide and I'll keep in touch with you also.

I'm going to find out about the bra Monday. I would like someone to come out to my house and install it. Bra Man uses "Venture Tape" which I have read is what Ferrari recommends to their clients. A person on the Rocky Mountain Mini forum said he had to have his redone twice because it was unsatisfactory before he found the Bra Man. He just had his GP done buy him. I'll let you know.

Steve,
I called Bra Man and he charges 500.00 for 18". IDS on Broadway charges 600.00 but since my Mini has bonnet strips he wants to remove them and then put new ones over the clear bra. Bonnet stripes are 105.00 so total price would be 705.00. Bra Man and Ace Clear bra both go over the bonnet stripes. Bra Man uses the Venture tape also. He used to use 3M but said he's had some yellowing problems with it. I think I'm going to go with Bra Man since my Mini is sparkling silver and pretty light colored, but I'm positive Ace would do a great job also.

I also talked to the Bra Man today, and think I'm going to use him as well. He quoted me $495 for the bumper and 18" on the hood, plus $85 for the headlights, foglights and mirrors. He said he was doing another MINI, which I assume is yours. I think he's going to do mine Thursday morning at his shop, then come to you and do yours in the afternoon in your garage. So I can be the practice to make sure he knows what he's doing by the time he does yours Since I'm picking mine up tomorrow at Schomp, how was your experience with them when you took delivery?

Very good reviews on Venture tape on this website (used by the Bra Man).
