oil filter

Is the oil filter on the r56 engine a spin type or is it the same old canister type.

At least on the cooper it looks alot easier to get to than the old engine. front drivers side of the engine bay (see press launch pictures). Looks like alot of clear room. A couple of inch extension on the ratchet should clear about everything and allow for free movement of the ratchet. On the S it will be a little more difficult, not sure but you may have to remove the turbine duct to get to it.

Thanks guys for the info. Do you think that Mini is still using the can to protect the fiter because its so low to the ground?

No, totally environmental reasons. You throw away a piece of paper and plastic, not a metal can every change. It's not that low compared to most cars. On the MC will be easily accessible from the top. MCS as well when you disconnect turbo duct.

I hope the R56 uses the same filter element as the R53, cuz I have a stash of R53 filters in my garage, LOL. It'll be interesting to see what has to be removed to access the filter canister on the MCS; it looks very easy to get to it on the Cooper [jealous!]

I'd like to know if it does use the same filter element. Let us know if you find out.
