hatch release button

Anyone else find the hatch release button really hard to press to release the hatch? I am wondering if it is normal, or a problem with just our car.

(after the sunroof post, I am going to sound like a weakling )

Yes, mine does it too. Sometimes I think it sticks. The other day it wouldn't open at all and I thought I would have to get my stuff out through the back seat. I just kept pressing it over and over until it finally opened. I planned on asking the service guy about it, but it sounds like its just an idiosyncrasy.

Same problem here, also seems like I have to be very close to the hatch to trip the mechanisim.

you talking about the button on the fob, or the button (handle?) on the hatch?

The button (lever, whatever) that is on the hatch, just above the license plate.

This is one of those odd things - it is a button. You squeeze it and the latch is released electronically. But there is a little delay. So because you are used to mechanical latches which would respond immediately, you squeeze a little bit harder thinking you just did not press it far enough, by the time it unlatches you have a death grip on the thing..!

I haven't noticed this on mine though i agree there is a slight delay. Perhaps I'm used to it from my other car which has a similar system.

I know what you mean, it feels like something mechanical, but it is just a button hidden under rubber that makes it "feel" mechanical.

I realize that there is a delay. Early on, I had that death grip you are refering to. But to experiment, I tried squeezing, and then releasing, waiting for the delay to open the hatch. I found that I had to squeeze pretty darn hard, then release, for it to pop.

It is definately going back.... maybe when they have got the fix for the upper storage box.

Why not just hold down the boot unlock button on the fob? Then the boot unlatches and all you need to do is lift the boot, no need to press the button on the boot..

Because I paid for comfort access, so I wouldn't have to fumble for a key, or a fob, when I want to get into my car.

If I have to get the fob out every time I leave a grocery store to get into the hatch before I get into the car, then it defeats the whole purpose of the comfort entry.

In my wife's case, she has the fob clipped to the inside of her purse. She never touches it, or her keys, anymore.

I guess I will hit the dealer and try out some of the other 07's and see if they are as hard as mine.

When you grab the latch, it takes all of less than a second. Much easier than looking for your keys and the fob. I like my CA, but want to be able to have it lock automatically when I park and leave the car. Am I missing something? Maybe that is a software update to ask from MINI.
