Re: audio pack
I don't have any new information on this and I would defer to Gabe's information.

Tks

There were three cargo nets in all of the R56's present at the event. All of them were in the boot area.

I saw the new MINI at a focus group many months ago, and I didn't like the look back then, and I think I still feel that way about the Cooper. I think the R56 looks more familiar though to past generations. Doesn't bother me as much. Thanks for the writeups and photos Dave!

Richard: just to confirm what you've pieced together, in the photo you have on top the rear seats are in the configuration shown below (pure vertical). In order to have passengers, you'd need to put the seats back to the normal position.

Dave those pics are awesome. I really think the sparkling silver color looks great on the R56. I almost ordered it, but just defaulted to blue like I usually do.

Oh I didn't realize you couldn't sit in it in the pure vertical position. So then in that position the seat back just becomes just a barrier to keep things in the boot from moving forward while giving a bit more room huh?? Otherwise you would just fold down the seat and be done with it. Thanks for the clarification!

Is it my imagination or is the rear boot sides now covered in carpeting like the seat backs??? Does that appear throughout the car or just the boot area?

It's not your imagination, the sides of the boot are covered with the same carpeting as the seat backs.

Oh, I wish I could make a living doing it (or even turn it into a serious part time job). Right now it's just something that brings in some $ for tires so I can drive H-stock.

But if it's the soft flexible stuff we currently have in the cabrio, it was a cost cutting move.

I'm not sure if it's the same or not, but it seemed nice in person on the R56.

Whats your take on the exhaust notes of the S Dave?

Also, what did u enjoy more on the track? The GP or the R56?
Most road tests (March Sports Car International, February Grassroots Motorsports come to mind) state clearly that the S, now sporting a twin scroll turbo, does not have the distinctive SOUND of the supercharged iron block engine. The R56 is reported widely as much QUIETER, with a bit of distintive tone when you back off the throttle. However, they note that the R56 is MORE FUN to drive, with it's huge torque range.

I agree with most here... I too was very skeptical on this car.. I have seen it, I have been in it, I didnt want to like it... But folks, dont pre-Judge it.. Its not bad. But i can only assume, that all the ones who are blasting it before seeing in person... most likey can also judge a new beer by looking at the bottle you guys are good

Wow, a convert. But that's a terrible analogy... there's always somthing good to be found in any beer!!!

But now that I think about it... there's appears to be somthing good to be found in ANY MINI!!!

THAT'S A GREAT ANALOGY!!!

You guys and gals crack me up. I'm amazed that MINI owners are actually getting their panties in a bunch that the new car isn't a MINI. Um...don't you remember the Mini guys who griped when the MINI first came out in 2002? Sheesh...I think I can still hear Guido kvetching.

Anyway, my car is in port and will be at the dealership next Wednesday.

That's a good point GRM... The classic owners I think have a little more right to complain!

I have no problems with the new MINI not being a MINI... My 2 cents.

Dave,
Did they have any MINIs with the second red color? I don't recall the name offhand, I think it was going to be available for just one model in June?

That would be Nightfire Red, and it wasn't there. I was really hoping to catch a picture of it with my solar red MINI, but that didn't pan out.

The introduction of Nightfire Red has been delayed several times, supposedly because of paint supply problems. Mini2 is reporting that it will be available in the U.K. the beginning of April.

it will only be available for the Cooper.

Astro Black

Do you have any more pictures of the Astro Black with the white roof - just ordered a MCS in Black with Redwood Red interior and English Oak Wheel & Dash - trying to envision the outcome ...
