R56 Keep fogs on all day?
Keep fogs on all day?
Does anyone keep their fog lights on ALL day even at night with their headlights when there is no fog? Im mainly talking about the front, but also the back too i guess.

The rear fog is sufficiently bright that it is annoying to other drivers if left on all the time. Do you also have your running/parking lights on all the time? Because the fog lights are interlocked and won't turn on without them.
Please, no no no no no!
Fogs are only to be used when visibility is seriously reduced. Lots of people over here put their front fogs on all the time and they are just being a pain in the ***. Rear fogs are even worse are they are blinding to sit behind and can make it difficult to spot brake lights going on.
The police can fine people here, they don't enforce the law often enough IMO.

Nope, it makes the driver look like a boy racer

I got all the visiblity option for here in Seattle. Auto headlights and wipers are my favorites. If only they had a fog detector. I switch mine on only in foul weather (fog or lost of drizzle road mist), which is pretty common.
I don't but I'd say if you have normal fog lights (vs HIDs or otherwise rigged to be bright set-up) do it if you want to - the front fogs are by nature designed to light broadly and low so it shouldn't really harm anyone else/blind them if you happen to have them on during the day.
Edit: Of course check with your local laws first. I see people driving with front fogs on during the day all the time here and they just look like dim lower lights, don't know what the code is but I never saw a PO pay any mind to it. Rear fog is another issue as it is brighter, and akin to a brake light so there are other issues.

I saw in another thread (I think on mini2) that the adjustment for the front fog lights was pretty easy to do.
personaly i see no problem running the fronts all the time, i do not but am not blinded by anyone elses save the jacked up SUV or p-up truck.
Regarding the social templates of what it makes you look like to have them on, boy racer or whatever is silly. I cannot imaging the things we imagine people think and thus we think. They are lights, and a switch and if someone likes the way they look... i am stoked for them. They do not blind me, so have fun.

Spot on KenL!
Very good advice... Listen to the man!
Food for thought...
Imagine that you are driving down the road and the oncoming car has its fogs on... Or the MINI you are following has its rear fogs on...
Not so cool now is it?

As an aside.....(I don't think this is a problem with fogs on a Mini), but if you left the fogs on all the time on some cars, you had to keep them cool by keeping the vehicle moving. Otherwise they would melt.
I think the manufactures have since solved this problem as you never hear about it anymore. (just thought I'd share)

Having consideration for other drives would be nice.
Afterall it's not an SUV -- if you want ed to be thoughtless and rude I'm sure you'd be more interested in a HUMMER or some other rediculoius monster.
I do have an idea though. if they are so cool turn them the other way and face them towards you, then you can see what other people would be dealing with.
Okay, I'm done with my rant.

I find the use of the properly aimed fog lites on the MINI to be much better than the higher and potentially blinding DRL's. About the same brightness as the DRL's, just make sure they are aimed properly.
