R56 NAM @ the U.S. Launch of the R56
Any hints as to where in Phoenix the press event will be?
Where I live (Ahwatukee--very SE corner of Phoenix proper--within easy earshot of Firebird Raceway), I've seen a few groups of brand-new, just-debuted or not-yet-debuted vehicles, particularly German cars. They've never been noticably disguised and it's always been in the springtime, so they probably wouldn't have been hot-weather testing. Also, they've had manufacturers' plates rather than dealers' plates. I always figured they were getting the dealers' first drives or something like that.
I wonder if I'll see any new MINIs tooling about. I'll keep the forum updated if I do.

Dave,
One of the bigger concerns raised in the U.K. has been the larger than expected gap between the bonnet and the wheel arch. Can you ask whether they've addressed that.
By the way, I haven't read about anyone over there complaining about the fit for the cutout for the headlights. Seems that fit has been fine.

Couple more items:
Verify that the standard audio system includes an 'Aux In' jack for USA cars.
See if you can get an 'official' response to the 'octane question' for both
the new R56 normal and turbo engines. Will use of regular or mid-grade fuel lead to damage in either the short or long term - or will it only result in lower performance? If only lower performance - how much?

Not enough time to transport to Texas and prep for a 17th delivery.

Take a look at the pictures this new owner just posted on Mini2. If the gap on mine looks this small and even I'll be quite happy. Looks like they've addressed the issue to me.

"Thanks for your response. The auxiliary audio input jack is standard
equipment, and will be on the center control stack somewhere below the
toggle switches. You will need to purchase a 3.5mm stereo connector
which you will then use to connect your iPod to the input jack."
Note, this is not talking about the future iPod interface, but just the fact that there is (as standard equipment) a 3.5 mm jack on the center stack.
RE: Aux Jack
Thanks dbhouston. That is excellent to know and will serve my purposes just fine. I don't need to control my iPod with the fancy (expensive) controls from the steering wheel. From other forums I have read that best audio quality, using an Aux Jack input, with an iPod is to come off the bottom (digital) connector vice the headphone (analog) jack. A recommended item, per other forums, is the Ziplinq ZIP.AUDIO-IP1 connector. It is iPod bottom connector to 3.5mm male stereo. I have placed my order today for one.
