The post count is a dynamic running total. Every time you add a post, it updates everywhere it appears, or at least it does for me.

has anyone ever driven a car without a hood and noted the difference in engine temperature? Or a classic hotrod with hoodscoop? There is a difference and function.

Juding by your profile you seem to be one of the most immature people on the boards to date.

Amazing you drove the R56 JCW

"its a shame so many people are into that BIG mini cooper now"
HA! HA! HA!
I guess it would be better if nobody liked it, sales bottomed out and BMW dropped the MINI line, oh that would be good for 1 gen owners. WHAT!
I love this guy! It's very entertaining.

It's a rare thing when someone with such a polarized view posts something so obnoxiously divisive... then proceeds to completely discredit them selves justifying that viewpoint with complete BS.

Enjoy this moment.

It ain't functional

Not to reignite an issue...

I examined my R56 MCS scoop with a flashlight in the dark, from both sides.

No light came through.

Therefore, it ain't functional, regardless of what the MINI website may say.

To all the people who bash the S for it's "fake" hood scoop --- do you have chrome on your car? The entire body design of a cooper is "poser" inasmuch as it is to honor a previous car. Is it's shape, with it's near verticle windshield "functional"? Is its boot functional? Is the center speed functional? Give me a break. You did not buy the car simply for it's performance, which is certainly not the best in the world, although impressive. It's simply a matter of what nin-function stuff you like or don't. Having said that, why the hell didn't they make the scoop functional????

Back on topic - I can't see where directing toward the turbo would do much - those suckers cook! I'm sure the innovative owners and aftermarket will find a use for it. While I'm not big on fake (my Scooby wagon has a fake hood scoop) this one makes more sense than most both for continuity and for model differentiation.
Motor on!
It wouldn't make any difference except to those who, with all of mini's non-functional touches, would find a non-functional scoop too much to take. "Oh, yeah.... So what if it doesn't do anything? At least it's not fake."

AND GUESS WHAT IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE PEOPLE!!!!!!

I have found more and more here (NAM not this thread, and yes I know Rick) are seeing a conflicting veiw and taking it personally instead if being able to accept someone else has different preferences. (Y'all need to go watch the MINI ad where the cat and bulldog share the passneger seat and window happily) Mr. Kart couldn't be paid to own a 53 and thats ok I've got little intrest in owning a 56 and given the choice I prefer the 53 over the 50 but we've both managed not to have wonderful experiances on NAM and gotten to know each other in many conversations in the OT, we have different preferences but we both respect those choices and love MINIs so its never an issue. Stop taking it personally and respect each other. Its a new model the cars will be different not everybody will like it, and 56 owners I hope you bought the car for your enjoyment not to show off to the current generation of owners because while a MINI it is a different car.

And now back on topic, the MINI version of functionality

It's from MINI not me!!!

Play nice everybody
Well put! And that vid is great. I wonder: If you put butter in the windshield washer tank............

2) If the Mini is an "S" a second hit is allowed and anyone can call it.

I started playing this with my wife in preparation of getting our first Mini. I was hoping to get her excited about the differences in the two cars and have her start paying attention to Minis on the road and the customizing folks are doing. It worked, and we're taking delivery of our own R56 MCS this Spring. We can now spot the hood scoop or center pipes at a great distance.

I'll have to learn how to flash my lights at an oncoming Mini while punching!
Do your arms hurt too much to shift now??

So, less than 2" makes the MINI too big?

LynnEl,

I just merged your 7 posts, all made back-to-back. Please try to use the multiquote feature instead of replying with a separate post to each item you want to quote. If you're not familiar with multiquoting, take a look at this tutorial post I made on it.

Thanks!

On the two R56's that I looked at the scoops did admit outside air to flow into the engine bay. Likewise, the location of the vent should allow hot air from the engine bay escape when the car is stationary.

As to the efficacy of the scoop I will leave to those who seem to have strong opionions which are forcefully stated.

Be happy, Keep smiling,

Joe S

Anyone see yet what the "revised Air Intake" will be for the Satge I R56 JCW kit? Keep your eyes peeled... I predict this debate will be a non-issue soon enough .

I did a little research about that new european pedestrian crash standard. Im not completely sure but I think in so many words it says that their can not be anything between the engine and the hood. So having some kind of ram intake from the factory may not happen, however the american aftermarket probably doesnt care about european standards so we will probably have to look their for a ram intake.

If I'm not mistaken, it dictates what can come off the assembaly line from the manufacturer. Hence MINI offering the Stage I kit as an AFTRERMARKET ADD ON . Won't be effected by pedestrian safety BS .
