The MINI buying/building process?

OK. Noob question here, but :

Can someone clarify the purchase/order/build/recieve process for me (or point me toward the post on NAM that does)? Basiclly when and how a build order, production number, build week, VIN are all issued. That and the specifics of when the purchase details are arranged (such as finacing, fist car payment etc.).

I've had a deposit down since the beginning of august and other than a couple e-mails about stuff I allredy knew, I haven't heard much other than "send us your preliminary specs and we'll call you".

Normally you would put down a deposit when you place your order, so you'd have your spec all decided at that point. Not sure about the "preliminary" part if you've already given them a deposit (unless you're in Cali...I get the impression all the rules are different out there). Once an order is placed, you can make adjustments up to a certain point, but for the most part the order is basically your car as you've designed it. Since you've ordered an '07 so early in the game, there may be some weird anomalies in the process...don't hesitate to call your MA or ASK-MINI till you have all the info you need. They won't/shouldn't be too shocked if you are persistant.

Since the configurator is online now, I'd give my MA a call and see about finalizing an order. Unless you're looking for those options that aren't available yet. But even then, a simple phone call couldn't hurt .

Here you go newb , perhaps this will help:

http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?faq=faq_delivery

There is a also lots of other info if you search the FAQ there. Motoringfile is chock full of good stuff too.

Cheers

PS: I personally would not leave financing up to the dealer, when you have a figure search around for the best deals and get preapproved (and check to see how long the deals stand since you don't even have an ETA yet; might not want to start that until you do have a better idea of that).

PPS: I would ask the dealer for a specific allocation date range and have them put it on your contract, along with all the car specifics and prices.

Cool! That's EXACTLY what I was looking for.

So I guess as it stands now, my dealer has not yet been given enough build allocation slots to reach my position on the witing list.

(waiting...waiting...waiting...)
